Question about using TLD66

Post by Capital_M »

How the fuck do you set the gain on the TLDs? I opened it up and theres two knobs for each input/output.

Do i have to turn both of them?

And when i set them can i have the music playing while im adjusting? or do i need to turn it off adjust and then test.

Play a 60Hz test tone, turn up the head unit to 3/4 or so (this will be your maximum).

Put your multimeter in AC voltage. Measure with the red lead stuck into the middle of the RCA, and put the black lead on the shield. Turn the pot for that channel until you get your desired voltage (e.g. 8.0v). Now repeat on the other channels.

Option 2: set your gains as low as possible on your amplifier. Figure out your target amplifier output (e.g. sqrt(watt * impedance) ). Now instead of setting the gains on the amp, you set the gains on the line driver, in order to get your target voltage. In this case you should double check that the line driver isn't exceeding it's voltage capability (i.e. lower than 9 volts or so).

Oh, sorry i should have explained better, i know that already, Errin told me, what I dont get is which knobs to turn on the TLD as there are two tiny knobs for each input/output.

Which knob is the gain? or do i have to adjust both.

I believe one is for the left and the other right. You will have to adjust both. In which case try and keep them at the same setting.

If you look at the case above the middle in/output there is a little L and R. L is above the R. That's how it should be underneath the case.

Do what I said above. You use a tone, not music. Measure each RCA output, and adjust the gains for that RCA until they are 8.0. Then move to the next RCA, adjust that pot, etc.
