Rsd 12

Post by lukeman269 »

Hey guys, I am getting a new rsd 12 in the mail soon and the rsd is replacing my alpine type e. I got a few questions to ask.

1. Will my old box be ok for it? I have a 1.8 cubic ft box with a slot port of 11 inches high, 2 inches width, and 20 inches in length. Not sure what it is tuned to though.

2. I will be using my Directed D600 mono amp running the sub at 2 ohms giving it about 300 rms. Should I set my gain any differently because I am running 50 watts less than what it should take?

3. How long should I play the sub at moderate levels before I can CRANK it?

4. Last question. Will the rsd be louder than my alpine type e?

the rsd 12s like about 1.8 sealed. if it does not sound right you could plug the port. as for power 300 is on the low side. i put one in my sisters car a gave it 500w in a 1.3cuft box and it sounded pretty good. i put one in mine in 1.8 and gave it 600+w and it sounded really really good and was pretty loud.

ported boxes are not generably interchangable like shoes are to you. They are tuned instruments that will effect both the sound and how hard it is on the woofer.
what else can I say I am a grumpy asshole most of the time.

3: you dont really need to do that. its true subs have a break in period, but you dont really need to baby it. just the sound will change slightly over the first 10 hours. or so

4: probably less loud overall. it will play much deeper. but the type is designed to be loud at about 60hz. the rsd is designed to play lower.
