Need some info on a RARE CHROME HiFonics Zeus Series VIII

Post by mizatt32 »

I have searched and searched on the internet for info on the HiFonics Zeus Series VIII (eight) that came in this chrome heat sink and I just can't find any info on it. I was told by the previous owner that he was the second owner of the amp and he bought it off a guy who got it brand new in the 90's when this series of amps came out. He told me, that the original owner told him, that he was sponsored by HiFonics and they only made these for people who were sponsored by HiFonics and who were big in dB Drag and IASCA competitions. I don't know how true any of this is so I was hoping there might be some HiFonics junkies out there that might know. Does anybody know how to get a hold of Steve Mantz? I'm sure he would know for sure. From everything I can see this amp has not been chromed and it was originally made this way. Any info would be great. Thanks.

the endcaps are chrome but the amp itself looks like a semi-polished aluminum. an interesting piece.
what else can I say I am a grumpy asshole most of the time.

Yeah I used to have a Series VII Zeus, Vulcan and Cyclops back in the mid 90's and they were like a metallic blue and in the late 90's I had a Series VIII Zeus just like this one and it was the white you are speaking of. I just recently had an Atlas Series VIII that was white as well. There are absolutely no signs of it originally being white because there are some scratches here and there as well as the inside shows no signs of it being white anywhere. Now that I look at it again it might be polished aluminum as was mentioned earlier.

those drilled mounting holes on the end plates are not original, do they look chromed over or is there signs of drilling after the plating?

the sink could have been chemically dipped later and then polished..

been looking for an atlas for years but in blue or grey anodize, it's like impossible

even if they did chemically dip it to polish it it would still take hours upon hours to get it polished that good unless they where a professional. :shifty:

You might be onto something here. Those 4 holes (2 on each side) on the bottom plate definitely are not original because I just googled some pics of a white HiFonics Zeus Series VIII and those holes are not even there. Yes they do look like they were chromed over (no signs of drilling after) which tells me that somebody drilled those 4 holes in themselves then had the bottom plate chromed. So at least we have figured out that the bottom plate at least has more than likely been chromed. THANK YOU!

note: More than likely they drilled those 4 holes because as you can see this amp doesn't have the 6 plastic mounting feet.....just thought of that :hmm:

I have a black 5 terminal connector that looks like it would work on that amp.
Check my buyer/seller ratings http://phoenixphorum.com/gridracer-vt4548.html

I have more PG stuff than one guy ever needs.

No need for that as it already has the 5 pin speaker output and remote turn on plug. Might be interested in a + and - plug though :colors:

LOL yeah I seen that. For that price I could buy a broken small series VIII sometime and get both plugs and get whatever broken amp I bought fixed :metal:

Speaking of my Series VIII Atlas I had recently......the guy who bought it has it listed on eBay. If ya go to his feedback as a buyer and look at May 17th of this year you will see good ol' mizatt32
