Better alternative to don't pump gas on X day..
I started, back when the war did, thinking of how everyone needs to shutup about how our people ( my cousin is in the Marines, and over seas currently), troops better yet, are at war. 1st becuse of Osama, now I don't why. Our troops, tose listed and at the time the unlisted knew that a war someday was a possability, yet they signed up anyway. Our freedom wasn't free prior to 1776 and it cost lives today to keep it. But now we're past the freedom part, as some feel Osama is dead- who knows, and giving lives for a different kind of freedom and that's in the form of gas. Is it worth it? Some say yes. It's what makes our nation thrive.

War is good, that is the bottom line.
So long as the war continues, US companies and even small business, keep going, and that keeps the whole economy going, which keeps everyone happy, and in a round about way keeps the rest of the world’s economy going.
And on top of that, it keeps terrorists off the streets of America and in the streets of Iraq, which really means a lot to me personally, since I am against getting killed by a religious fanatic.
I prefer to stay alive, and the way things are going now, things seem to be in my favor.

So you approve of the war in Iraq, or do you just approve of war in general? Either way I think me and you are on 2 different planets. I think I'm going to have to agree to disagree with you and leave it at that.Eric D wrote:War is good, that is the bottom line.

Can we say Vietnam without the hippies?
This war is bullshit, it has gone from retaliation to ridiculous. But GW's making his stock dollars push through the roof and padding his buddies pockets with all the gratuitous contracts he provided.
We as a people are taking it in the ass over the gas prices, while a few get rich. Fast forward a bit, everything you buy will go up in cost because it is all reliant on gas to get if from point A to point B, meanwhile grandma is starving because of her fixed income. Government employees will get their 7% cost of living increase this year how about you? So the hourly wages are not enough to survive any more and the Federal minimum wage will go up again causing prices to go up all over again, you now make less than you did because if you are not making minimum wage you didn't get the government imposed wage increase did you?
OUR GOVERNMENT NEEDS SERIOUS REFORM, it has not been "by the people for the people" for many years. The new slogan should be "Buy the people control the government".
Bush and his whole family can get the fuck out of politics and I would be a happy guy. Follow that by any person directly or indirectly receiving any form of compensation from oil or pharmaceuticals.
Speaking of pharmaceuticals why are we bitching about wars when the FDA kills more people annually that "this" war.

I think we've established that "Ka Ka" and "Tukki Tukki" don't work.
I approve of war in general, but I especially approve of this war, since it is directly affecting me, and is not over “political” reasons, like some other wars have been.
Diplomacy only gets you so far, then you have to take action to protect your interests.
I also especially approve of this war, as it includes with it the possibility of new oil reserves, which is sort of a big “bonus”.

Well sir, I completly disagree. This war was started on 100% complete bullshit information. In no way, shape or form did Iraq threaten the safety of people in the US. There were no weapons on mass destruction or ties to Al Quida, despite what the current "adminastration" would like you to believe. There is wayyyyyyy more than minimal coruption in this "adminastration", including treason. If GW was serious about this "was on terror", he would be going after his buddy Osama, but let's face it, there's just no oil in that.
I watched a pretty good debate this weekend between the mayor of SLC Rocky Anderson and talk show host Sean Hanity. This was a great example of the 2 sides there are in this country right now. Rocky Anderson came out with a speach full of facts and tons of info about why the war is wrong and why GW should be impeached. Sean Hanity came out and did the republican thing. No facts, a bunch of name calling, finger pointing at the democrats because "they approved of the war" (even though they were going off of the misinformation they were spoon fed by GW), and he did not answer one damn question. All he could do is try and pull at the heart strings of the audience by showing pics of women and childeren over in Iraq, and keep saying "your hurting the troops". This is exactly what is going on on the White House right now. Some of us are just to stupid to except this spoon fed bullshit they are trying to feed us. Just my .02 cents for the morning.

Eric let me ask you this, because this is something that I really don't understand. How is it that you feel safer now that Sadam is out of power, but Osama is still running wild? Sadam and Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 , yet the person and group that did it are still out there. I would feel safer if we went after the guy that actually did something to US citizens, rather then the guy that was too busy killing his own people.
Don't get me wrong, Sadam was a very bad man, and probobly did need to be removed, but who the hell are we to tell everyone else what to do? Why is the US big brother to the whole damn planet? Just a few things I don't understand.

While I haven't read Snopes, I can tell you why this won't work...gridracer wrote:Or you can just read snopes and find out why this chain email from years ago just won't work.
All the fuel comes from the big oil companies anyway. The "little guys" just buy thier fuel from the big refineries, so the money all goes to the same place anyway. I really wish people would understand that moving when or where we buy fuel is not going t drive down the price of fuel, getting away from our dependancy on fossil fuels will though, riding a bicycle to work, walking, even using mass transportation will help.
As previously mentioned the wasteful life style the western society, is what makes the prices of these goods continue to rise. I am astonished and disapointed with the attitudes of some people I meet, about how wasteful they are, and they are proud of it. They refuse to use more energy effciant items, like smaller cars, energy effciant light bulbs, even refuse to recycle. I just don't get it.
I have to say I agree with this. I remember that time back when there was pride when you bought something made in The USA or for me, Canada.Eric D wrote:I hate how we outsource everything now, because I work for a manufacturing company in the USA, and I want to keep my job.
I also hate it due to the lack of pride people once had. I remember when I was little it was the rage to buy something made in America, and if you had something made in Japan or even worse, China, you were embarrassed about it.
But above all, I believe in the free market, and if I loose my job due to outsourcing overseas, then so be it. It is my responsibility, and mine alone, to find a new job or switch gears and find a new career.
So, yeah, I am against outsourcing, but I am far more against government regulation of outsourcing.
I am not too happy with companies in China not having the pollution laws we do, and supplying a cheaper part while destroying the environment. But, I don’t think the government should step in to limit unfair practices, I just think consumers should step up to the plate and refuse to buy related products, something they will never do.
Sadly, the average American, and a large portion of people in all the other countries, are all ignorant, something which cannot be fixed.
“You can’t fix stupid”
It's rather difficult anymore to find products that are not made overseas, the only product that comes to mind for a Canadian manufacturer, is Paradigm, buidlier of Home audio speaker systems. Great speakers too, I love mine.
mr. tibbs, I don’t know how old you are, but there was another war in Iraq (well, near it at least) back in the late 80’s. To say that we pissed off Iraq, or Saddam in general, would be an understatement.
So, it was a matter of time until Iraq struck at us. I for one am all for “preventative maintenance” instead of having to eventually take a “corrective action”.
And as a huge bonus, Iraq has gobs of oil, which will now most likely be at our disposal for purchase, hopefully at good prices. Prior to beating Saddam to a pulp, he would never have allowed us to buy his oil, and would have sooner seen us wither on the vine than help us (I can’t say I blame him after the first gulf war, but either way he clearly did not get the last laugh).
Yet one more great reason for the war was to try out a heck of a lot of new equipment and technologies our troops were just itching to give a shot. Heck, you can’t get any better training than live targets.
As for 9/11 itself, I can’t say I really felt all that “unsafe” afterwards, since I live in a cow poke town which would probably be near the bottom of a terrorist’s hit list. But, I don’t like it when some one attacks my country, even if they attack the liberal mecca of the USA. So, someone had to get their ass kicked, and Saddam was pretty convenient.
As for Osma, we will get him some day. In the meanwhile, if not getting him keeps more people motivated towards getting him and those in the way, then I hope they don’t get him for a very long time and we get to wipe out plenty of other threats.

Umm... these aren't animals or practice targets. These are people defending their home country... or worse... civilians (including children)!!! You are pretty sick in the head if you think of people like that... fodder for testing weapons. Ridiculous.Eric D wrote:Yet one more great reason for the war was to try out a heck of a lot of new equipment and technologies our troops were just itching to give a shot.
