Good Box Color for Rsd 12?

I just made a 1.5 Cubic ft. box last night and I am planning on painting it. The rsd is a hard color to match something up with it. What color do you guys think I should paint it? I have some in mind down below:

1. Candy Apple Red Gloss
2. Blue Metallic
3. Aluminum Metallic
4. Deep Blue Gloss
5. Black Gloss
6. Powder Gray

I got pictures of the install too. I know its not the best car for making a sound system but it's what I got.

color of car and installed gear would help
what amps color of wire used ect. theme?
are you just leaving it like that? carpet will show less imperfections

Also no screws to hold it together? glue and brads ...that subs will break that box apart no problem just to let you know

Is that box a cube? If so you can get standing waves inside of it which kill your bass output. If that is the case I suggest adding some angled surfaces or bracing inside of the box, and some polyfill.

blue boxes always sound better then red. The paint is harder, which makes the box stiffer and encreases low end output although there is a nige 50 hz hump associated with black that I like as well. IF you want the best of both worlds, paint the inside of the box red, old old spl secret that I might get in trouble for spilling the beans on but what the hey?

The box won't break. I have 1.5 inch wood bracing on the inside and the nails are 2.5 inches long and I used a bunch of glue and glued in 3/4 x 3/4 x 4 inch blocks all the way around the box. It shouldn't break. The color of my car is white and my deck is red and blue (Alpine) The amp lights up blue and is blue and silver on the outside. My interior is maroon.

Before painting the box, I plan on using wood filler, sanding til very smooth with 220 grit and they prime it and use at least 2 coats of paint depending on how well it covers after the primer.

The box isn't quite a cube. Its more of a rectangular box. It has 1.5 inch bracing too. The dimensions are 15 x 15 x 17

what he means is. is the front baffle parallel to the back of the box? standing waves can cause cancellation because they bounce directly back and interfere with the front waves. its not a huge deal, but adding some polyfill to combat that wouldnt hurt at this point

i would go with power gray to blend in with the carpet, or candy apple red to match the dash!

second skin and others also makes a mat that you can put behind the woofer that is supposed to help break things up.

I think I'm gonna go with the Candy Apple Red. It will really pop and will look cool too. Oh and my sub is starting to break in very nicely and it's getting more refined. I made the sub slap a couple times today. It really moves haha.

is there anything red in the trunk around the box? Red might make it pop but will it look out of place?

I didn't see any preperation to mount the box but it is always a good idea. To prevent the speaker wire from gettting yanked from the box, when I run it like that I will tie a knot in the wire and pull it so it is tight aginst the wood. A little silicone there will also help prevent leaks.

Yeah I guess you are right. What color do you think I should do? Wouldn't a knot in the wire mess up the wire? I put silicone in there but it wasn't in that pic. Leak Free!

a knot will not mess up the wire unless it ends up being pulled really really hard as if you were in a wreck and it was not mounted. But in that situation it would prevent any damage to the sub from its terminals being pulled off. Wire is replaceable.

Ohh ok. For mounting the box, how would you go about doing this? Should I buy some L brackets and screw em down? Or should I bolt it from the inside of the box to the floor of the trunk?

bolt inside is the best to protect against theft, but its a bitch if you ever want to take the sub out yourself

I have never used screws I always use glue and my brad nailer for every box as does the shop I worked at I have never seen a box blown apart. One of the 1st things you learn from carpenters is glue holds the box together with MDF the screws or nails are just to tighten it so the glue sets. Take 2 pieces off MDF glue them together and clamp them tight, the next day see if you can get them apart with out any damage to the MDF.

yeah, the glue is often stronger then the wood face!

that said, i still use screws...but i dont think it will break anything with just brads

screws are more trouble then they are worth for boxes and I too have either used biscits(SP?) and glue or brads and glue. It would take a pretty powerfull sub to blow the brads out of its box...

Yeah my dad is a carpenter and he taught me how build sub boxes. I have built over 6 boxes using 2 inch nails and glue and they are strong as ever. With the addition of 3/4 inch blocks and bracing, I would pay to see a sub blow that box apart.
