What 8" midbass speakers?
Anybody got a good recommendation for a reasonable cost? I'm running them off of a JL 450.4 amplifier's 150w/ch side. I was looking at the JL ZR-800's.

Anyone have experience with these?

Thanks for the replies! Ideally, I'd like to stay under the $200 mark if possible. I've got enough tied up in this thing as it is.
For sure, I'd like to be able to use the boxes I built for the quarts, since I had to hack my floorboards up to get them set in there. They are PVC caps, and are not very big at all.

I'm sure of that, but they are recessed into my floors like this:

And I can't go any larger. wider hits the frame rail, taller hits the body mount, deeper and the tire hits it when off-road. It is what it is, and I can't do anything about it. I'd love to have a half a cubic foot box in there, but I gotta live with sub 100% SQ and have a vehicle that will work right when I'm done.

I would at least suggest an aperiodic membrane with such of a small enclosure.

You could try this and let us know how it works out. I was looking at these for my doors...

That would be a pretty good compromise!shawn k wrote:I would at least suggest an aperiodic membrane with such of a small enclosure.

DIYMA is large fans of these for midbass woofers.

Thanks for all the replies!
There are vents in the kick panels, and I need those to breathe in the summer since I have no A/C. The dimmer switch would sure be easy to me over, but with that come another problem: As mentioned above, the rocker panel is a "C" channel, and the legs of the "C" come in far enough to just miss the enclosure as it is. I can't really make it larger in any dimension without getting REALLY creative.
I'll likely get a pair of either the Quarts linked above, or the Daytons. They are both priced where I want them to be, but the Quarts higher power rating has me leaning that direction so far.

how loud do you like your music? While it has been a while since I have installed a pair, every pair of quarts I ever installed for someone that liked their music loud was disappointed mainly in the midbass. Quarts sound great at a good normal listening level, like they do in sq competitions which is where they made their name but when you crank them they just always left us wanting more from them.
what else can I say I am a grumpy asshole most of the time.
I have a set myself....12voltjunky wrote:http://cgi.ebay.com/2-Image-Dynamics-ID ... 35ad807a76
never tried these personally...
I saw that auction before...it's essentially only one IDQ8...the other needs a recone, which is no longer available to my knowledge (my set was one of the last).

I want to be able to crank it up when I have the desire.
The Quarts I have now were freebies from a friend, and have been laying around for a while after being pulled from an old install of his. I ran them for a few days until one blew, and now I need something to replace them. These seemed to have enough output to sounds really well at the level that I listen plus some, but evidently something stupid happened or it wouldn't have failed.
