charging an old yellow top

i have an old yellow top battery that has been sitting for a while and want to see if it will accept a charge and i have a 10 amp charger. but im thinking it would be better to trickle charge it and i wonder if i could put a resistor or something on my charger to bring the amps down to around 1 to 2 amps. i just don't know if i could do something like this but if i could what value resistor or resistors should i use to get the amps down?

thanks for the link i checked out the charging recommendations for the yellow top and i want to float charge it at 1 amp's but my charger is only 10 amp's and would like to try and reduce it down to 1 amp.

Go buy a charger that does 2.5 or so, less than 50 bux at most places

I just got one at walmart a while back for $65. IT has slow, maintain as well as a 75A short burst for starting.

You can buy a schumacher charger/mainter for like $35 online or a battery tender for around same price. Chances are if the battery sat dead or below 11.75 volts for any amount of time it won't hold a charge .Optima told me that once they are left below 11.75 volts for any amount of time the AGM inside starts to crystalize and no longer will hold a charge and get worse and worse.

i just hope it will accept some kind of charge if so at the very least i could use it with my power supply just for added power. but if it does'nt i wont cry to much as a phoenix friend of mine gave it to me just for hooking up a system. the thing is i don't want to buy another charger for it and then have it not work, i feel i could just throw the money toward another battery.

ive got it accepting a charge now it's staying at 11 volts which the dude at optima said it probably would since it was in bad health believe it or not before charging it only read 0.6 volts on my meter. so its not looking to bad for a battery that's been sitting uncharged for some years. im gona try to trickle charge it by using a small gauge wire hooked to my power supply because it seems to have a lot more stable voltage than both of the charger's that i have to work with. the moral of the story is don't let a battery sit uncharged for some years or youll have a good boat anchor, or youll have to baby sit the battery for a while like i had to do.

it work's pretty good on my power supply with a 2125 hooked to it and the voltage is at 13.4 which is where the power supply is suppost to be at, now if it wont start a car so what it can still serve to help with musical peaks as they only last a few miliseconds anyway.
