New Here with ?s and a PG M44

Post by gomach1 »

Hey guys new here from NC, and glad i found this site!

Well ive had this PG M44 amp sitting under my bed for a while now. A friend of mine gave it to me so excuse my ignorance on these amps, it was giving to me And i just got motivated to get going on my car stereo setup. So i pulled it out and was going to do some research on what kind of components i should use...like door speakers...subwoofer etc. Since i dont have any of that yet im open to all suggestions. I have a cheap DUAL headunit and hate it. So im going to swap that out as well.

And how it all should be hooked it, if i should bridge the sub? Run the door speakers off the headunit or the amp? Ive normally always ran them off the headunit but it seems as if these are really good amps. and just asking for suggestions on what to use.

I uploaded pics, it seems to be in really good shape. The capacitors look good and i know someones been inside, so all the matinence things may have been done? I dont know so im looking to you guys for suggestions.

Thanks in advanced

welcome to the phorum thats a good amp but before you get into powering it up you probably should replace the input capacitors because over time they go bad. those are the four medium sized capacitors that are bunched together, you usually dont need to change out the big capacitors as they rarely go bad unless the amp has been overly abused. :)

Thanks for the reply....is there a way to tell if theyve been replaced?

can i run a sub directly off this amp? or do i need to run an external sub amp?

it is hard to tell unless someone that had the amp and tells you they were replaced but seeing that sticker on the one capacitor may mean they have not been replaced as most of the older phoenix gold amps have that sticker on them. :)

The RCA jack on the right side needs replacing too. The ground signal ground connection is missing.

You can definitely run a nice little setup off this amp. Front speakers 2x55W plus subwoofer 220W bridged. Doesn't seem like much, but these are REAL watts and the sound quality is as good as it gets.
