JBL power series amp & JBL 1200GTI

Post by Kurt Wild »

Hi everyone!

Has anyone any experience with JBL amps?

My current sub amp is a JBL P180.2
2x90W 4ohm
1X360W bridged

I'm wondering whether it will be able to properly drive my upcoming subwoofer in bridged mode. Or whether I should start looking for something better.

The sub to be is an old JBL GTI1200. This is one of those better JBL car subs based on their prosound drvivers. It's 3ohms in real life (Re=2.5ohm). The amp manual says minimum speaker impedance in bridged mode 4ohm.

I'm all about supertight attack and low distortion bass and don't want to compromise SQ. The unbridged 90W just won't cut it, but will the bridged 360W be quality watts?

for cheap you can get a nice sub that will out perform most old school subs .also you don't have alot of power.. Im sorry can't remeber if the amp can do 2 ohm

I'm sorry for posting all this JBL crap on this site. But this is my favorite car audio site and I'm all excited about my new old school sub. It ROCKS!

I'm only feeding her 90 JBL Watts, but that is more than plenty
I had to lower the sub line output on the HU -6dB compared to my other sub. That was chewing on 180 Watts (same amp bridged@8ohm)

The sub sounds great! Best comparison is a loud clap of thunder. Undistorted loud bass with impact that makes my knees buckle. It sort of puts my midbass to shame now, even though the gain is set to a sensible level.

Here's some more pics. (Sorry)

edit: maybe this topic should be moved to "installs"

Tip: When deciding on a new internet alias, always check that it is NOT a well known gay porn star first.

Haha... do you want me to change your other account name instead of starting a new one?

I love those old GTI subs! Extremely efficient!

And I'ld love to know where you came up with a recone kit for it as well!

I was considering a recone, because the GTI has slight spider sag. So I found this site:

http://www.reconingspeakers.com/product ... econe-kit/

A few months ago the price was 195$ I think, which is way steep and I dumped the idea. Now its 0$ so they might be sold out.
When the price was displayed, it said: This is new old stock, found in the bowels of the speaker exchange building.

My sub was stored face down for over six months, which brought the suspension almost back to normal position. And main thing is that it sounds just super, so I'm totally happy with it.

I'll stick with this account name and the Kurt one can be annihilated, thanks!
