My M100 fan shroud...

That first one on the MS shroud post was a tester and pretty ugly. I can't even come close to copy the original, so I just shuffled things around and made it fit better. It moves alot of air, so I may try just one fan. Compared to the 600ti, these 2 fans are like hurricanes and sound it too. I am sure one will be great, may even need a speed controller to slow it down/keep it quiet. I could go for a thinner pair of fans and shorten the overall depth, but I have a bunch of these little hurricanes, so they'll be my testers for now. Thanks for looking and your comments!

I can't quite tell from the photos... are the fans "sucking" air out or "pushing" air in?

Either way, (in or out), those fans will not be very effective. The shroud really looks cool, but it might even make for a worse thermal condition for the amplifier. You have a dead spot between the fans, and since they are on the top side, the inner fins will get little to no flow. While stuck under the sheetmetal they will just cook more.

Air needs to flow from the ends of the heatsink, and evenly in order to remove as much heat as possible.

I reluctantly disagree on the effectiveness. With both fans running, it feels quite like the vents from the ac in the car. It is quite much and was planning to try just one fan. Also, the outlet is a fraction of the inlet, so the air is stacked and pretty turbulent as the fans face upwards somewhat. There also seems to be pressure as it needed to be weighed down as air was coming out of every opening when I was testing the fans. It would hover about .25" above the sink.

Of course, the proof will be a side by side thermal measurement of the 2 M100s on a load which I will set up soon (one with and one without the fans). I have everything to test with, just need to attach the thermal sensors to the sinks for best results.

sitcks up further then I would like and just breaks the amp up too much. part of the beauty of the M was the gold fins. With those peakin through the factory shroud it still gave the effect and kept its smooth lines.

Well, maybe your design is effective. I suppose it can be effective, but maybe not efficient.

To get the same cooling capacity as the factory PG fan shroud for these amps, you would need to run your fans at leaf blower speeds and noise levels. Blowing air directly through the fins as PG does requires the least effort on the part of the fan, and the least noise due to low turbulence.

They are too loud, I am looking into some thinner more quiet fans. It is still pretty big, but pretty easy to make. I think it will work out as a shroud if ever I plan to load one down for sub duty...

If you put a thin fan on the top instead, I think it would be more effective. It depends if you like the look or not.

Cleaning out my cupboards I have found a pair of the Phoenix M Series Fan Shrouds. They are shaped to match the contour of the M Series; no idea how rare or otherwise these are now.

I used these many years ago with a pair of M50's side by side, and perspex mounted on top of the fins to create the cooling tunnel.

These have been modified to take air from below (see pics), but some tape over the holes would revert to the side input easily enough.

They've been in storage for 10+ years now, so would benefit from a little tender loving care; there's some small areas of rust along some edges but nothing that a rub down and a respray wouldn't get sorted.

Looking for an offer to take them to a good home; am in the UK but could ship back to the US if shipping costs were covered (though that might not make financial sense!).

The holes are kind of a good idea for hiding wires, but the execution definitely isn't that great.

The holes were cut for a functional reason; the air supply in the build came from below, not the sides. We just put masking tape over the grilled inputs and it worked like a dream; I'll admit they could have been more aesthetically cut but max airflow was the order of the day. If you're installing the shrouds onto a flat surface the hole will be naturally covered up anyway.
