A Lil' Taste of the South

Post by AVICJR »

My Pre-Memorial Day Boil, I thought I'd share this cuz I know some people here have never had it before:Crawfish, shrimp (sorry no pics), potatoes and corn. They look like sh*t but they taste so good. Mastiff, I know you've had this in L.J..

Ooooohhh, I used to go Crawdad fishing in California. It's not the south....but hey still fun! on a lucky day I (was probably like 11 or 12) I found a creek w/ crawdads. And one summer i took my nephew and my brother and parents to this place, and fished out like 20 in like 10 minutes! was pretty funny, I found a dark hole and they just all jumped on my line and wanted my bait. Was the best spot ever!

My bad, I just figured that the coastal areas are more likely to have crawfish. It is VERY popular here in my "neck of the woods". You have to go early or reserve bags of them otherwise they sell out quickly.

$1.05 per pound.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, it was fun eating them after I deadened my doors on Friday. I have tons of tiny cuts all over my hands and the spices and lemons burned the hell out of them. Bad timing.

That's not a tremble, it's his pelvis gyrating in excitement. He's ready to release a little "steam".

Me and seafood just aren't best pals.

I mean, sure shrimps, lobster and crab are all fine but there's nothing special or particularly good about any of them to me so I usually pass.

I also absolutely hate the way (cooked) fish smells. The less seafood smells like seafood, the better I like it.

Either way, seafood is cool, it's just not usually my thing.

Sushi though... :D

I'm the same way, if it smells fishy it ain't getting near my mouth.

But good ole sushi is great, since if it smells fishy it's already bad.

Ahh you boy's don't know a great time when you see it. those are freshwater Lobsters in mini form of course, and cook properly after being cleaned properly they are as good as any other seafood you might run across.

Now all crustaceans are of the spider family <too many legs> But what the heck after seeing what pass's as a delicacy in other country's I have little problem with freshwater lobsters. <underwater spiders>

Heck some cold beer and they be great, especially with some fresh shucked <raw>oysters, hummmumm!!! Live is good...

I am from Virginia originally and i am proof that eating these kinds of things will help you live and love longer   It beats escargot all to hell and back. had some of that in Vietnam 2 years ago, it did not go well with beer <too sweet> among other descriptions i will leave out.

Oh and it beats the hell out of chocolate covered ants and other assorted crawly things people eat around the world

Oh these don't smell fishy if they are fresh and clean, and I do agree with you if it smells fishy it should have been left to the cats to eat, as old seafood of any kind is horrible and might just kill you.

Oh anybody here like UNI ???? You don't want me to tell you what that is but Japanese love the stuff, and its harvested right here off our coast line to sell to them.. UNI is < Sea Urchin > or parts there of anyway

Its a acquired taste to enjoy this wonderful delight, all brown and peanut buttery up until you place it in your mouth and that God forbid bitterness hits your tongue. Your gonna think you just ingested pure bitters. And then you have to ask what part of the Urchin was that

Happy dazes my friends

Uh, nice property. No Donzi in the parking spot?

Love shell fish. Always scoff a ton of 'em when on the coasts.

Go Sens Go.
The only stupid question is the one not asked .......

Well, technically they aren't spiders (arachnids) at all but they sure look as alien as arachnids do. They are both arthropods, though with the jointed exoskeleton and all.

I like spiders better, although I don't think I'd be convinced to eat one.

I purged (cleaned/rinsed) them 5 times, the dirtier, the fishier tasting and smelling they are. I hate it when they're not cleaned properly, I can't stand that fishy taste either. I can only eat catfish because I hate that taste. That's the main reason I make them myself to assure it's to my liking.

HH- Thanks for the compliment. I'm guessing a "Donzi" is a boat, if so, no boat. we are not "outdoor people" if you believe that. Although I live out on the soccer fields but that's way different. No camping or fishing or hunting.

The view you see in this pic is a small man made lake that is opened/closed with a giant floodgate. Just beyond that floodgate is the Gulf of Mexico.

A Donzi is not just a boat, it's a damn yacht, and a fast one at that! It's supposed to be a fishihng boat, but not many of us pure fisherman can afford a luxury boat like a Donzi.
