some good news for a change!

Post by ttocs »

Been sittin in the hosptial dreamin of anything else while in the hosptial again and the guy that is gonna help me install my heads/cam just said that he should have time this weekend. Hopefully I will be out of the hospital and able to help/learn let alone go enjoy the drive, keep yer fingers crossed. He has 1400 hp fox body stang that he built himself as well as a lift to do everything on(for the subframe connectors) so I think it should be fun...

You will be amazed what kind of difference the roller rockerswith a matching cam make! All u got to take care of is to go with stronger valve springs too so they support the extra RPM´s.

the heads are new and trickflow matching as well. I can't wait to feel the difference as from what I have read already upgrading my intake, exhaust and injectors prior to this should put me over the 300 hp to the wheels at least.

the stockes are rollers with only 10k on them. If they were not so fresh I would be upgrading them as well.

Not sure what you have right now, but almost any head/intake and cam swap + tune over stock is like a new car. I recently tuned a 5.0 with 160 something AFR heads, some ford motorsports cam and an edelbrock intake on a stock MAF using EECeditor on a chipped stock ECU and it made 300 whp and 320ftlb. It was amazing, I always teased my friend with a 90 GT when I saw the stock heads and the 1/5" x 1" exhaust ports. With a cheap set-up, it almost seems like a double in hp for @ $1k on good used parts...

As I was going through the stock ECU (A9L) map, Ford thought it would be nice to drop the timing every time you shift. If I remember correctly, 9deg total timing after you let off of the clutch. I believe it was to keep the transmission safe from speedsters trying to race their sports car, hehehe....

thats what I am hoping for... I forgot to mention that I had a tune put on it to make the most of the 24lb injectors I added before I left azl when the stock bottom end gave out. I have been getting parts together for this for years now and it is exciting to think I might be enjoying it finally next week. I am almost afraid to crack it open though because its been running so well lately. I used to shift hard and try to chirp into 2nd(we all had that phase right) until I got the 10.5s and then I thought with the right tires I would end up chirping my clutch. I took it for a drive last week and found myself alone at a stop sign on a country road so I decided to do a launch. I was not trying to chirp 2nd and didn't shift as hard as I use to do but was suprised to hear it chirp 2nd more then it ever had before. The new motor is just basically broke in now with a nice easy 7k miles on it since it was swapped so it should be perfect time to do the heads.

Curious if the new mods will make it any louder? Seems like it will be moving more air and I just wondered if it would do anything to the exhaust note? Obviously the cam will change how it runs but I just mean in general volume?

This also gave me something to do today which was another nice bonus. I have chrome valve covers that while I like the chrome seemed like they were missing something. Today I found a ford and a trickflow logo so that I can use the decal cutter to make custom decal for them. I decided to go with POWRED BY FORD, TWISTED BY TRICKFLOW like I had talked about. I was not able to figure out how to twist the S in twisted the way I wanted so I just made the first 3 letters normal and then inverted the last 4 of twisted. Should look pretty cool I think.
