Here is an e-mail I got from him a few weeks ago.

Hi to all. This is a open email to everybody I know of that may be concerned about my recent vision loss and the medical care I recently received.

Well it’s a long story spanning almost 5 months total now, but I will try to cut to the chase so you all get the gist of the final outcome and results so far.

Several months ago I was diagnosed with severe cataracts on both of my eyes. The right being the worst, with the left coming along "like a freight train" < doctor’s words> and not far behind.
Well the first doctor made suggestions of only giving me a 70% vision correction with a need for eye glasses with bi-focals for reading. This was not to my liking too much, so I went to another doctor that I eventually allowed to do the surgeries for a valid second opinion.

Well she said "no-no-no he just wants to sell you glasses, and that she could give me near perfect correction in both eyes so I would not need glasses except for reading."
Well this is what I wanted to hear, and since she was highly recommended by my longtime friend and personal doctor I accepted her offer to save my sight.

So after waiting about three months in line to see her and to get into the eye surgery center, she finally repaired my right eye. And I must say I was astounded on how well it went. No pain at all, and my right eye vision was restored almost perfectly at about 20-25 sight according to simple eye chart measurements.
I was so happy and over joyed she had lived up to her word of saving my sight to the letter on my right eye that I could not wait to be finished with her efforts.
So I headed back into the surgery center without a doubt in my mind that the left eye would have similar satisfying results. Especially since we were still on the same exact plan of her replacing the cataract lens with highest correction lens possible to restore my vision equally in both eyes.

Well this where the story takes a turn for the fucking surreal.

The good doctor performed her surgery on my left eye as she had scheduled, BUT she somehow and somewhere decided on her OWN to alter my lens implant to a lesser power lens. She did this without my prior consent and or consulting me first before the surgery, and or explaining what the hell she was doing and openly discussing any of the consequences of her actions on my left eyes vision.

Now to get her to discuss anything about this, some three weeks after surgery, I had to contact her Boss and my friend of 15 years, one of the three medical directors of the San Jose medical group clinic and explain to him that my left eye was not repaired to my satisfaction, and that I had blurred vision and was only able to read the top two lines of any eye chart and the second line was blurry < ~20-50 vision>. I further explained that she had offered no information at any of my office visits except to say that "both your eyes are perfect"
He in turn gave her a call when she got back from vacation and asked her to contact me and explain for the first time to me what is was that she had done to my left eye, after the surgery mind you.

Now please remember we were on a plan of as close as possible to 100% vision restoration by lens implant by using the correct implant to achieve this goal of near 100% vision correction. For my right eye this was a lens of 14.5 D.
Never was any deviation ever discussed or tabled for thought by the doctor. So I went in and had the second surgery expecting that when the left eye patch was removed the following day my left eye vision would be similar to my right.

Well it was not, and on my next office visit I told the nurse and the doctor both I was not happy with the implant that it was weak and my vision was blurry. The nurse did my eye tests and said I had ~ 20-50 vision, and that my right had a slightly stronger lens in it. This I verified by comparing the implant lens cards I was given after each surgery. In my right eye was a 14.5 lens, and in my left eye was a 13.5 lens.
Now please bear in mind all my life long my left eye had always had a thicker stronger lens as it was always the weaker of my two eyes.

When I asked why she did what she did on her own without my knowledge and permission mind you , her response was that "I had very bad astigmatisms in my left eye and that in order to CORRECT this issue she had to reduce my vision correction so the astigmatisms would cause problems with my vision later on." Mind you now that she never discussed this in any way shape or form prior to putting a surgical blade to my eye.
Talk about prior informed consent violation and violation of several medical laws concerning the right to know and prior informed consent requirements...WOW what a fuck over!!!
This" Bitch" blinded me in my left eye by installing a weak lens so the blindness would offset any need for astigmatism corrections. She blinded my astigmatism problem and my left eye vision all at the same time...Damn !!! She even admitted over the phone that I would need a 15.0 D lens to correct my vision in my left eye
What a wonderful way to help someone. Relieve their blindness by leaving them blind...WOW !!!!

So to recap what has happened:
Cataracts have been removed by surgery from both of my eyes, along with both of my natural eye lens I was born with.

My right eye is great, although as discussed prior to any surgery's I will need reading glasses for close reading and fine work. All went as planned and scheduled and agreed upon prior to any surgery.

My left eye has a lower power lens < 13.5D rated> installed without my consent reducing my vision to a very poor and blurry ~20-50 condition. This was done without my consent and knowledge and without prior counsel by the doctor with me in any way and or any chance for me to get a second medical opinion and or option.
Upon asking this doctor to remove this lens and to install a better one her replay was " I don't do that type of reconstructive surgery and that is very dangerous, and that the implant that’s installed should not be removed as it is not a simple operation and will most likely cause eye damage"
Well I was surprised to hear that a doctor who puts things into a person’s body was not capable of removing them. Damn, another first as far as I am concerned. A doctor that can only damage you but can’t repair what they have done wrong. And to top it off she also said that what I wanted was purely cosmetic. Damn getting the right work performed by rework is “purely cosmetic” I will have to remember that one.

At this point any credibility of this doctor is pretty much out the window with me and I am having the thought that she is just defending herself and her illegal actions of putting something I did not approve of into my left eye. Doctors never admit to breaking the law or violating ones right to know and laws of informed consent, although she has done a very good job on all of these counts.

She further prescribed a set of glasses for me on my last visit that I have not filled yet waiting for her response to request for a repair surgery on my left eye.

So here I sit typing this long winded description of one of the most heinous things I have ever been put through in my entire life. I am currently trying to get a list of credible reconstructive eye surgeons together so I may further investigate how messed up my left eye really is, and to see if someone out there in the eye surgery world can repair what this person has done to my left eye.
I see clearly only through my right eye and it is supplying all of vision currently. And my left eye is only supplying depth perception information to my brain so I don't walk into walls and the like.

Well that's about it for now. I am sorry to send such a long email to all of you but it’s just what this whole situation has boiled down to at this point. Any of you out there who know of a reconstructive eye surgeon anywhere please send me his contact info so I can try to salvage what’s left of my left eye....

man that sucks. Nothing will hurt you more then when you realize that your doctor was just practicing medecine on you and that they are really just taking guesses on your health...

if you take one thing from this, DO NOT BELIVE THAT YOU DR'S KNOW EVERYTHING. I have been amazed over the years at some of the stuff I have seen them do over the years and there has been more then one time where if I did not ask/question what was going on they would have made me worse. Do not be afraid to question your dr's to be sure that they are doing what they are supposed to and not just what will pay more or get rid of you faster. After all even the dr will tell you that they are just practicing medicine and no one has mastered it after all the practice.
