Front speakers
Front speakers
I might catch some flack for this but Ive never been "thrilled" with my rsdc6.5 cs. I dotn know what it is but there's something missing and I cant eq it out to fix it and it makes sound dead to me. I think its the crossovers and I dotn even want to think about goin active.
Can someone recommend a good bang for the buck set that's comparable. Something that's readily available. I don't want to be trying to track down a set of 18 year old crystal comps or something.

Re: Front speakers
what do you think is missing? Highs/lows/mids? whats the budget?
I am selling my three way diamond audio hex speakers which honestly has been the best sounding set of speakers I Have ever owned but they might take some work to get them to fit. Only asking $300.

Re: Front speakers
they ARE known to be dead in the 200-250hz area. so maybe play with the eq there, then let us know if you still think something is missing, and what you think it is.nutxo wrote:I might catch some flack for this but Ive never been "thrilled" with my rsdc6.5 cs. Re: Front speakers
I know the rubber surround on the rsd subs are pretty darn thick. Are the surrounds on those rsd components pretty thick too? Would that be the problem to why they may sound "dead" in the 200-250hz range?

Re: Front speakers
Ive never been a fan of the rsd components, they have always sounded anemic to me in most installs.
I much prefer the Alpine Type S components in comparison to the RSD's, but then again I love the sound of the Xenon components so Im full of contradiction in regard to the general consensus on here. lol

Re: Front speakers
hmm. Can I swap out the xovers with something else or do the speaker spec need to be the same?

Re: Front speakers
Changing xover wont help, because the issue is not where the tweeter & woofer meet it is much lower in the freq range of the woofer, where the xover isnt doing anything (& none would). Solid install + eq work is the only thing you can do to remedy, or replace them

Re: Front speakers
you could try going active with it and then add your eq as needed but switching to a different passive x-over will not buy you much I would not think

Re: Front speakers
I run type r 6.5's and love their sound, 80hz and up they are very detailed and provide plenty of midrange. Very easy on the wallet.

WHo makes em and how much power can they take?
Re: Front speakers
alpine. I was not big on their speakers for the longest time but they have been getting better over the years and I could consider them.

I found some old speakers I'm gonna throw in there but you probably wont think highly of them. They are just some old QM 160.03 kx from like 93 or 94.PhuckinGood wrote:These are great driversttocs wrote:what do you think is missing? Highs/lows/mids? whats the budget?

Re: Front speakers
is there room for an enclosure for the speaker? I have been suprised more then a few times how much a small enclosure can help out on the mid area of a speaker. If there is room its as easy as finding a good sturdy tupper-ware-type of enclosure(the older thicker ones work better obviously) and then line them with some sound damping, then attach them to the baffle if there is one. It is also great for keeping the speaker dry if its in your doors.

Re: Front speakers
Ive had this thought already. The door speaker sits in kind of a sleeve... Ill look at it this I do the install next weekend. Id love to do kicks but they would break the deal me and my son had.ttocs wrote:is there room for an enclosure for the speaker? Should be a busy week, the rack is ready, building a box tomorrow, need to remake a few RCA cables ( dammit forgot to get black shrink today ) and hopefully getting it all in saturday. I have a line on an EQQ and that could stop everything dead in its tracks while i order RCA ends and some canare..
Re: Front speakers
For some serious midbass u could try the Audiobahn AMD60Q! I had four of them each door in my first ever big install. Them are rocking!

Re: Front speakers
As long as u are using them in a proper way in a nice sealed enclosure in the door running from 50 to 175Hz those are performing very well. Not joking at all.nutxo wrote:lawl, I hope youre joking. Other than that u can always use the K series from Focal. But i doubt that u will find a pair for 60bucks plus shipping.

I'm gonna try the door thing. I mean if you knew what the inside of my doors looked like. Steel skin with fiberglass. Probably not the best home for a speaker.joerg wrote:As long as u are using them in a proper way in a nice sealed enclosure in the door running from 50 to 175Hz those are performing very well. Re: Front speakers
Just remember a smaller enclosure will hurt mid-bass performance. I made small PVC enclosures for mine and ended up using a hole-saw to cut a few holes in the back to let the woofer "breathe" as mid-bass suffered from not having enough air space. I too have noticed that the RSD's lack some mid-range, but a little EQ-ing should help that out.nutxo wrote:Ive had this thought already. The door speaker sits in kind of a sleeve...
