Easter night I started a new job at a place that was 31.6 miles away and it SEEMED like a good job. The supervisor was great, but it was the others that were ??????
10% of the guys I mended with real well like we had known each other for years, 40% of the guys were sociable with me, 40% didn't ignore me but didn't approach me either and the remaining 10% I wanted to shoot, one was on an ego trip. He could do ANYTHING and it was better then anyone else could and another was my team lead. I will give my team lead credit though, after I went off on him saying "Why don't you start talking to me instead of at me!" He changed but was still a bit ~~~ awkward.
I had to many signs hit me in a 2 day period. Over the weekend, 2 weeks ago, I heard on the radio all weekend long... Wabash is hiring for welders, painters and metal fab operators. Mon morning I got a cal from a temp company wanting to know if I wanted to go back to Wabash National. Told him I actually thought about it but wasn't sure. He set up an interview and said I could cancel if I changed my mind. Fair enough. Later that day a friend of mine sent me a text saying, have you thought about going back to Wabash? OK, that was it. 3 signs, had to see it through. Called up an old general foreman there and he had asked me to come in and meet with him 1 on 1 off the record. I had said a few things over the phone that impressed him so he wanted to "guide" me. So he has taken me under his wing, so to speak, to guide me to my goals in life and in a career. I want to move up in the world, not just be a pee-on, but to supervisor or higher.
Long story shorter, from that Mon to that Fri I talked with the gen. foreman, had my interview, took my weld test (passed), and took my physical (passed). All in 5 days. That was a sign too, it moved so fast and smooth. I went through orientation Friday the 5th and, sadly, I start 2nd shift (which isn't too bad given the hours, Mon-Thur 6 pm-4:30 am, off Fri, Sat, and Sun) so I'll still have a life. I'm actually excited to go back to where I'll fit in, know a lot of people, know the organization, how it operates, the jobs.....
With the $.30/hr loss, but the gain of miles I DON'T have to drive, I'll be up $30/week. So here it goes...............
