Testing equip. w/ just a battery.
Any reason(s) not to use a 12v batt. on its own or perhaps with a charger connected to it, for testing headunit/amp? Thought I read not to, cuz its not regulated well enough or somethin along those lines. just wanna try out h/u pre outs to amp to make sure all is working. Thanks!
Re: Testing equip. w/ just a battery.
you would even be fine with out the charger if you didn't crank it up or need it on for 5-6 hrs and its a good battery. With a charger you might get a 60 hz hum depending on how cheap the charger/radio is.
what else can I say I am a grumpy asshole most of the time.

Won't be crankin it, and wont be for too long so that's pretty much what I wanted to hear. Thanks ttocs. I guess its not much different then running ur stereo in vehicle on acc (without charger) is it?
Re: Testing equip. w/ just a battery.
The lone battery will provide pure DC... it doesn't get any better than that! Hook up a multimeter and keep track of the voltage over time. You may be surprised just how long you can run a system, even with amps, at descent volume before you run into any significant voltage drop.

Okay cool. I'll give it a whirl. I have a cap layin around too, would that help anything? Now I'm tempted to get a lil car audio action in the garage lol.
Re: Testing equip. w/ just a battery.
no the cap would put a larger load on the battery I would think in this case.
I would see no problem playing it off the battery alone for a few hours at a moderate volume on a couple of speakers if the battery isn't too bad.
