07 Rabbit Vs. GTI

ok guys i need advice.

im buying a new car next month. now i like the new rabbit but i love the GTI

now the GTI has 200 HP turbo and its 31000 cdn

the rabbit has 150 unturbo 21000 cdn

no do any of you have advice that i could use to help this critical situation.

i mean i can afford both but i can comfortably affor the rabbit, the GTI is pushing the bank a little but is do able.

Go Rabbit and get turbo.

The I5 is a vastly superior motor to what you get from the factory and takes boost very well.

I am going to disagree as it is much cheaper to upgrade the gti as it comes with a turbo...and with simple bolt on stuff you can take it higher fast than you would be able to when starting with a non boost eng.

from my observations to boost a non boosted eng it ends up costing you almost double in cost vs factory turbo car.

have you looked at buying the MK5 .:R ?

dsg is for people that are lazy

its great for F1 but for street its boring

it removes controll from the driver

??? ok maybe i am thinking of something different. the gti i drove was just a normal manual 6 speed at was quite nice.

im not a fan of paddles either

it was an o7, so...mk5?

are sure all of them do? becasue she bought it new....and i shifted gears. and there were 6 forward of them (6 forward gears)

*just checked out the website. you can do 6speed manual or 6 speed dsg

yeah.....i would never ever buy a new car period. im all for nice and expensive cars. but buying a new car is a waste of money.

The MK5 GTI comes standard with the 6-speed manual. The 6-speed DSG tranny is a $1000 option. It is easily one of the most advanced transmissions on the market. Some dont like it because they simply like to shift...or because they dont understand it. Its not a manually operated automatic tranny like nearly every other car out there with "paddle" or steering wheel controlled shifting. Its more of a semi-automatically controlled manual. Fastest shifting transmission out there if you dont count Ferrari's.

The ONLY thing that you dont have control over with the DSG is it will automatically upshift as it hits the rev limiter. And it wont let you downshift if the revs are too high (the Ferrari does this too, but will shift when the revs fall enough....the DSG doesnt....you have to manually pull the paddle again when the revs are low enough.

The first issue could possibly be fixed with software hacks...not sure. The second probably cannot...but its more of a safety feature. Its not a race car.

If I were to get a new GTI, it would definitely have the DSG in it.

We're talking Canadian money here. Despite the currently high dollar, cars still cost a LOT more here. A 2000 Aero with 120tkm costs about $14k on the high side... so does a 1996 M3 with over 240tkm! Obviously 4 years newer with half the mileage is preferred. Not to mention the Saab is a great car for winter as well. Comparing 2000 M3 with 120tkm, you're looking at well over $20k... for the price difference you would have the Saab pushing nearly 400hp. You should be able to find the same Saabs for under $10k down there.

Keep in mind my car is 3500lbs of sexy luxury, it is not a sports car. It is the same size as a BMW 5 series. It costs as much to insure as my 1985 Toyota Corolla did. I moved my entire house in the car.

The other main factor is that my car is 1) automatic, 2) torque limited, 3) front wheel drive. 0-60 is my weakness... it's above that where car shines. In first gear I boost 0.8 bar with limited torque, 1 bar in 2nd, and by fourth gear I am at 1.4 bar. I have not found anything that can keep up to me on the highway.

However, I have beaten all of the following:
1 ) Mine's Stage 1 Skyline GTR R32 (dig/roll)
2 ) Apexi 240sx SR20DET (dig/roll)
3 ) BMW 330ix (roll)
4 ) Magnum SRT-8 (roll)
5 ) SRT-4 (dig)
6 ) 2007 Mustang GT with some shiny parts (dig/roll)
7 ) Acura TL with shiny parts (dig/roll)
8 ) Infiniti G35 (roll)
etc.

Yesterday I also kept up to a guy on a Yamaha R6 on the freeway. I never made it to fourth gear because the guy was dangerously weaving through traffic, so I decided to back off.

Anyways, insult my 0-60 all you want. I'm not floored by it either... My 1/4 mile time is probably in the low to mid 14's, if even. My car is not a beast from a dig. It's not for racing... it's for driving. If I need to pass a car on the highway... boom, done. If some retard in a GTI or a BMW wants to flash his high beams at me, I can make him a speck in the rearview mirror.

Interestingly enough I checked google for the 0-60 times on the R32's, and it's exactly the same as my car... Paying double what I did for a Golf that only keeps up? I'll pass...

Yes and you will get passed or left behind in the corners when your lumbering luxo cruiser develops body roll from hell and breaks traction. Remember it’s not a sports car.

4 motion > FWD

and stock 0-60 times

04 R32 = 5.9sec

2000 Saab 95 aero 6.8 sec

look your spec’s up again

Granted you paid less but you also bought a lesser car performance wise. In short you have a highway bruiser nothing else, now also realize you had to mod your Saab to be where the .:R 32 started without a single modification.

I think it also pays to mention that no mater what you do with that Saab you will never achieve the level of handling and road fineness that the .:R32 has just as I will never achieve Veyron status.

Point I wasn’t impressed just as you will never be impressed with the .: R because they are totally different cars made for different reasons.

Yours is made for yuppies that sport ties to work; mine was made for the sole purpose of pleasing performance enthusiast that had the paper to buy it.

I know the stock time is 6.8 seconds, but you were scoffing at my video, which is exactly the same 0-60 time as yours. If that's all you are basing it off of, your scoff is off mark

The stock Aero also has more lag, but the same top end as my car, so it will be even worse at 0-60, but just as good at crusin and bruisin.

Don't get me wrong, I like Golfs, and especially the R32... but... you started it

Them Saabs are fast....my friend has a 9-5 and it rolls. I compare it to my other friend's Volvo 850R. That thing is a bit heavy off the line.....but when that turbo kicks in, you are in the seat.

But R32 for me.

If I wanted a luxury cruiser, I would look for a 00-02 740iL or something.
