box size recomendations and rsd amp question

Post by ttocs »

I have been considering how I will be building my trunk and the hardest part to work around is just trying to keep it easily removable and yet rock solid as far as mounting goes. I decided to use all 3 of my rsdc 104's and to make it easier to remove I will be building three seperate boxes. The trunk opening on the 94 mustangs is really small so I am not sure if I were to build one big box if it would fit, so this will solve that problem as well. The three of them will be bridged to a rsd1200.1 that will be of course operating a little hot but throwing plenty of power to them so I am already planning on additional fans to keep it cool. I do not turn it up all that much for all that long so I think the amp will be ok.

My question is what type/size box have you guys had luck with on the rsdc's? Went out and took some measurements and I have plenty of room between the shock towers(43"), almost 14" till the boxes would rub the rear speakers, and a good 8-10" of depth. I am really on considering a sealed box but would be open to opinions. I figure between the 3 tens that are just supporting the Ti9's in my doors, with a bass cube and plenty of powa that I should not really need to worry about having an ok spl number when I might want one..... With that being the case the extra trouble of a ported enclosure, or rather 3 of them just doesn't seem necessary.

The subs will be facing back behind where the seat use to be. I want them to face into each other a little bit so I can hopefully use a piece of 1" plexi and an extra rsdc dust cap to make a neat display infront of the center sub.

2nd question is about the through output on the rsd amps and what would you do? I am going to run the 600.1 in the roadster bridged to one Ti9, and another 600.1 driving the other. Would you run the sub out from the alpine 9885 deck to the 1200.1 or would you go out from th eq251ix 150hz lowpass to the 1200.1(50-60 hz lowpass) then from the through out to each of the 600.1 amps(50hz high pass to make a band-pass 50-150hz)? I like the idea of going with the through outputs because then the lpl's would make it tunable all in one spot(probably hidden in the consol).
what else can I say I am a grumpy asshole most of the time.

no opinions on box types/sizes that you have had good luck with previously?

I didn't use 10" rsdc in my install but I used a single 12" w a slot ported box built to exact specs of what PG recommends and it freaking slammed for a single 12, all my friends thought kind had 2x 12's or a single 15. But we both know ported boxes use allot of air space and u may loose allot of ur trunk space. My install is posted on here. U may wanna look. I hope this may help.

I can't help but play with the idea of a ported box because I have a vent that will be in the rear package tray I made and I would love to port it through there, but with the 3 seperate boxes it would be a bit harder.... I could still port them just not like that.

Didn't you remove the rear seat? 3 10s ported would be crazy and probably very efficient. I like the tiny box my 10w3s are in sealed, but I like getting the most out of the system and efficiency wise, ported is the way to go... Isn't the ported RSDC10 volume like 1cuft per sub?

Maybe someone with that modeling software can do the 3 10s ported in a shared enclosure and 2 slot ports instead of 3...

yes the roadster 66 is now in the upper portion of the back seat, the lower portion houses the eq215ix as well as the power dist(dd10, fuse blocks, ground blocks, and isolator relay) on one side and the other will have the bass cube, esp-2, Ti elite X-over and a nice display for the 9mm super triple shielded rcas. The subs will be directly behind it, facing backwards. I might be able to squeeze 3 - 1 cu boxes back there but just not sure I would need it ported.

I've read you get flatter response with a bigger than recommended sealed enclosure, so trying an easyish round port set up then sealing it up if you don't like ported awesomeness should still benefit you, hehehe...
