Matching speakers for Elite.1 and Elite.4 amps

Post by oca123 »

Hi there,

This is for my own vehicle. I do not work in the 12V industry.
A little bit about my current system:
Front stage is Mid and Midbass drivers from the Focal KRX3 3-way set in factory locations, and Arc Audio Black Series 1.0 tweeters.
Rear is OEM 3 inch mids, used for rear fill
Processor was car PC, just replaced with Alpine PXA-H800 (car PC was too much of a PITA)
Subwoofer is a Boston Acoustics SPG-555 in a sealed box. The box is bolted against the backseat, firing directly through the ski hole.
Car is a Bentley CGT. This has been my car audio hobby car, and it is not a daily driver (about 50% of the time) I am not afraid of cutting panels, etc.

Here is my dilemma. I saw the Elite.4 on display at a car audio shop I go to from time to time. It was not powered or anything, but I was intrigued by its design, and I took a flashlight to it and looked through the cover. I think blood pressure in my brain dropped :D

I ended up ordering one Elite.4 and one Elite.1.

Upgrading the alternator on this car is probably not an option, but I can easily add some power cells if needed. I do not plan on using all of the power the amplifiers can put out, but who cares. It's nice to have the headroom anyway.

I am however a bass-head and I would like to use the Elite.1's output capability to the fullest, especially since it is so efficient due to being a class D design.

Initially, I thought that I could order a couple of the PG Elite.12d subs, but I hear that these are not available anymore until they are re-designed, because the Elite.1 amps are frying them. Is this true?

In any case, I was not able to order Elite.12d subwoofers. My plan was a sealed box, firing through the ski hole.

Can someone recommend a pair or subwoofers that would be suited for this amplifier? A sealed box is easiest for me to build.
I believe I can fit a couple of 15s also.
If someone has the tools to help me model a box that would use a slotted port through the ski hole, that would be best :)

Also, I am open to replacing the front stage, if anyone here has any ideas. I dont mind using obscure brands, DIY drivers, pro audio drivers, etc.

Amps don't kill speakers.... people kill speakers :P

For your front stage I'd suggest:

A pair of these http://www.madisoundspeakerstore.com/sc ... tile-dome/

or these http://www.madisoundspeakerstore.com/ri ... -radiator/

If you're doing a three way then a nice pair of mids would be: http://www.madisoundspeakerstore.com/ap ... -midrange/

And for midbass: http://www.madisoundspeakerstore.com/sc ... fer-4-ohm/

Your Alpine processor will come in handy here do do all of your xover work!

Without a doubt this is the best value you can get even given the high price tag 8)

the old version titanium elite 12 will take around 2000w on music. you might also check out the tc sounds axis they can take around 2000w also. for the rest check into scanspeak or seas for raw drivers and hybrid audio and dynaudio or morel supremo.

adding more batteries to it will create a larger load on the ALTERNATOR and could make things worse not better.

I have a Digital Designs 3512 dual 4ohm F/S that would handle all that Elite amp can throw at it. Not looking for a ton
$ wise out of it. PM me if interested. Just putting it out there is all.
screw car audio, I'd rather go fast....errr, wait a minute.

Unless you can upgrade the alternator I don't like the chances of the two elite amps making it far. That elite.1 will draw some serious current and no way I would run one daily without an upgraded alt like 250a or so. a battery or two would also be nice. I too myself have been looking hard into the elite.1 for running my lms ultra but I have already begun the electrical system overhaul in my car (tahoe) to a 250a Dc power alt with two run each of 2/0 welding cable and a kinetic HC1600 sitting under the back seat. This setup is probably the lowest I would think of running that much power off of. It would be a shame to cook either of those amps because of no power backing them :(
SYSTEM:

Pioneer 80PRS
Us Amps 4300x (Upgrading to Elite.1) On its way!!
Us Amps 400x (Upgrading to Elite.4)
2X Soundsplinter rl-p 12" (Upgrading to Audiopulse lms Ultra 15)
