Xmax 12's help please?

Post by ajaye »

Assuming they are in decent cosmetic shape and in working order, is $80 for 2 Xmax 12's a good price? Did they make different NI in this line, they guy thinks they are 8 ohm but isn't sure? Any info/advice appreciated. I'm not looking to blow my windows out, I was actually only thinking 1 8" or 10" but if this is a good deal I'll jump on it and play around with them.

$80 for both subs is a great score, even if they're in so so condition. From what I remember they are 4ohm SVC as I ran 2 of them in my ride before goin' to the TI line.

Sorry for the double thread, it was super late and I was kinda stoked as I was thinking it was a score as well. Waiting to hear back, the little pic I saw of them has them looking clean, but I asked for some more detailed pics. Hopefully I can work it out. If they are 4 ohm svc that would be awesome too, I really only think I will need one and I'll be running it with either a ZX350 or a RF punch 225.2 (the late 90s aluminum one) so yeah 8 ohm each wouldn't be ideal. Thanks dudes, will keep posted and if I only end up going with one I'll give the phorums first right of refusal on the other one.

Here's the only pic he had up. Hard to really tell much, is it just me or does the dust cap on the right one look a tad misshapen?

Holy dickballs... for $80 thats a steal. They even have the brittle foam trim attached! The left one looks slightly scuffed on the dustcap but the right one looks great. You'll want to hook them up to power to make sure they aren't blown of course.

Well assuming the seller won't have anything set up to demo them, what would be a quick easy way to do so? I can't drive my car at the moment, so I won't be able to put a music signal to them until I get them home. Can I jumper the + and - from the car battery to the speakers' terminals and make sure they move both ways? I've only ever done that with drivers with a 9 volt battery but I can't imagine a 9 volt battery coaxing any movement out of these things. On the other hand using the car battery scares me.

The only other thing I could do is lug one of my 4 ohm stable HTR's over there and make an MP3 of a test tone or of a song after running it through an LPF but that seems like too much of an ordeal to be the most convenient option.

The feedback is much appreciated, here's to hoping I hear back from the guy soon and I didn't miss them.

And in the time it took to make that last post, the ad has been removed so I guess I missed them. Damn. Thanks again anyway for the help guys, unless one of you snaked them from me, in that case I hate you. haha

V1 models..... the stand of the spider in rest tells a lot of the condition there still in... but for the low price, can you go wrong ??

dmm resistance in rest should be about 3.9 ohms( V2 12 inch about 3.3 ohms )

but a zx350 is not heavy enought for a 12 inch. a zx500 will do a better job....

I was given years ago the good advice from somebody, don't use two Xmax V1 models brigded on 2 ohms on an amp that

is just 2 ohm stable(m100,zx500,ms2125 for example). because of the high inductance they could damage the amp.

that was changed in the later V2 model......was then explaned to me... i still remember those words.....

anyway, sometimes you have to be quick to buy something second hand......

Well I just ended up with what appears to be an early model but bnib Memphis PR12D4. Its 12" dual voice coil and says Power Reference but can't find any pictures to compare and confirm. Guy is taking $35 and lives literally 5 mins from me so I jumped on it. I know nothing about Memphis but again I'm not looking to break any spl records and I enjoy experimenting and most importantly I'm still on track for my $200ish goal for the whole system. Now just need the Clarion EQ or equivalent for my preamp stage and to build a box and button up the install. The end is in sight.
