Ground Location?
So i was just reading the PG manual for an MS275/MPS2240. It clearly states NOT to ground the amp directly to the battery. I have read about and or seen many installs that connect multiple grounds, through a distribution block, then cabled straight to the main battery.
Is this harmful to the amps or battery?
I am curious because that is what i plan on doing with 0g wire, straight to the battery.
Any input or opinions? Past issues? Thanks for looking.

It is not harmful in any way I can think of, the only problem is you tend to get more noise doing it this way.
I had a hard time believing I could get more noise connecting directly, until I actually tried it myself and sure enough, my system had more noise. Assuming you ground the system properly in the rear, and under the hood (improve the factory ground), the car itself is WAY bigger than any power wire you would run directly.

Re: Ground Location?
I just did it but partially because I was upgrading to a dual battery set up and moving them into the trunk. Nothing wrong with it, not sure why the manual would say not too short of saving $$$.

Hmmm...... So i guess i should just save the cash on that extra 15' of 0g then. Thats cool, theres always somewhere else to put it. I will definitely be doing the big 3 in 0g as well. For looks AND function. Cool, thanks guys

Re: Ground Location?
if your asking "is it going to buy me anything?" - no not really. we could build identical systems and have one with the ground ran and you, me, and anyone here would be lucky to hear a difference. I really did it mainly for show as I am building a show car system.

Re: Ground Location?
Well, if you've got 15 feet of extra ground 0 gauge... You could out in a beefy ground distro right by battery.. Double 0 to frame and battery, then to engine block, to alternator mounting bracket if possible... Etc.
A single battery to frame ground, if that's the only primary ground, can screw up all sorts of stuff if it fails. Normally, I'd say its a total waste of good wire, but if you already have it in ground color, and nothing else to do with it, all you lose is the extra weight to drag around and more time to make all the runs look good.

single frame battery to ground - well yes a good ground is necessary and often why checking the grounds is recomended to be done before chasing any other gremlins.

as I said a large part of the reason was just because it would look good. The other part was that I wanted to ensure that the deck/amps had a solid/shared ground. You don't have to go this far one of the higher end shops I worked with would twist a blue/yellow/black wires together and run those from the deck to the amp, opposit of the rca's to do the same. I am running one of these power/ground wires off of the dist block, to a DD10 that will be controlled with switched power instead of the remote and it will be powering my deck and a number of other accesories.

Re: Ground Location?
I actually haven't purchased my wire yet. Still in the planning stages. I have found a pretty good deal on 0g ($89 for a 20ft spool), but christmas is taking precedence over the system right now. My plan is to have the entire thing mapped out and have a list of things to buy, and check them off as i go. If i can put the cash toward a distribution block or circuit breaker, it just gets me that much closer to the end. I will look into doing multiple chassis grounds though. Currently the truck has a single 8g chassis ground. I know it can be better.

Re: Ground Location?
been collecting my gear for this install now, crap probably close to 4 yrs, working on it almost 1 yr now. If you have a list of what you want to do and the gear needed sooner or later it comes across here for a good deal.
Not audio related but I have been wanting to replace/upgrade the seats in my mustang for about a year now. Never found anything I liked till this week someone on a mustang forum I am on posted up some super nice corbeau suede/leather GTii seats used for a 100 miles before he blew his motor. Saved me almost $500 and should be here tonight/tomorrow.

Re: Ground Location?
A large elaborate system takes a huge amount of planning. Unless you have a bottomless bank account, patience is the best thing you can have. Most times, what you need will come around. Im not too worried about how long it takes. The truck is not going anywhere, and i would rather wait for what i want, than compromise for lesser (non PG,lol) equipment.
Sounds like a nice set of seats. Just proves that good things come to those who wait. They should look great in your 'stang.
