I am wanting to attempt an install in a 2005 Hyundai Sonata that takes up zero trunk space. This means using the rear deck locations for subwoofers. 6x9 stock. I can fairly easily seal off the trunk and reinforce and deaden the deck itself. Is there a set of 6x9 subs that play will IB? Free air might be more like it, with the size of the trunk vs. the size of the woofers. I know Kicker used to make the FA69 woofers. I see that Tang Band and CDT both build 6x9s advertised as "subwoofers". Not much info other than that.
If I cannot find something that will drop in and work, I will build small enclosures and probably use some JL 6W3v3s. It just seems like more of a challenge to go the 6x9/IB route. Plus considerably more cone area. Not a bad thing. If I can find the right drivers.
I remember kicker had free air 6x9 subs ..
not sure which other brands have some, but think I saw some not long ago ..

Best bass output I've heard from a 6x9 were the infinity kappas, the green coned ones, in sealed 6x9 boxes. Thought my friend had two 10's. I think with today's offerings and technology, any decent 6x9 will have decent output.

i'm going to try the jl6w3 in 2 small boxes mounted to the bottom of the rear deck,this should block the noise from the trunk as well as better sound quality and power handling.

Hey bud - Give these a look, I'm runnin a set for midbass duty in the sound board I built and they're monsters, clean, clear and thumpin. bass.
I might try some of the CDT 6x9 subs free air. But I am toying with the idea of building ported enclosures for some HAT I6SW and mounting them under the deck. I might also try and find some old school coustic bass pumps. DR-328 or 330. Just for fun. If I get motivated enough, a 6th order bandpass I6SW is supposedly a killer setup. Building it with the port firing through the deck might be tricky, but doable.
I got under there and looked at the underside of the deck and I think I can easily fab up a "shelf" for an amp under there between the speaker locations. Now if it would just warm up some.
