I amp
I have a 2011 Camaro Convertible and looking to upgrade stereo. Someone had suggested the Phoenix Gold I amp. Just trying to get people's opinion on if its worth buying or is getting the JL audio HD900/5?
Re: I amp
I'm not sure which amp you are asking about, but if you are considering the JL five channel amp, I can very safely say that the Phoenix Gold Elite.5 is a much better amp. It's arguably the best five channel on the market. A more apples to apples comparison would be the JL five channel versus the Phoenix Gold mid level Ti21600.5 five channel amp, and even then I would still go with the Phoenix Gold amp.
JL makes great subs, but their amps are very overrated.
Edit: I guess you're asking about the Camaro system PG makes.

I'd say it is very good for what it is, but you have to ask yourself if that would be enough for your listening taste. For me, it would not.

Being loud without good sound quality is pointless, but having good sound quality without being loud is also pointless.

It would be the Camaro system PG makes. I know the local salesman spoke highly of that amp and was pushing for me to get it. Someone else told me that it's a nice amp more because of it's easy set up to the Camaro.
I am not looking for an overly loud system and will probably only replace the stock sub. If there are better amps out there for less money why wouldn't I be smart and spend less for better.

Gentec website shows $2500 CDN. The conversion is not too much right now.

Well, if you don't want to occupy a lot of space, or if staying OEM is important, I guess you could do worse, but.........
Elite.5 amp: $1500 msrp
Ti2 6.5" Components: about $180 (2 for $360)
Ti2 10" subs: about $230 (2 for $460)
$2320 for the gear, and you could probably have it pro installed for $2700 or $2800 total. Go with the Ti2 5 channel amp instead of the Elite 5 Channel and that price comes down further. You end up paying a little bit of a premium to stay OEM, because that system with the Elite amp I am pretty sure would sound better and get louder. Look at that PG Scion install on the website. Same idea.
