Q&A for me
Re: Q&A for me
we still need to know if you are running 2 set off of just the front channels or if the .4 will be dedicated to the front speakers. If you have 2 sets hooked upon one channel they will split the power that the amp puts out evenly. If its feeding 300 watts out then each set sees 150 watts.
As for power rating it is generally suggested that you match the rms ratings of the amp to the rms ratings of the speakers but it really isn't that important. Keep the signal clean and out of clipping and the speaker will play just fine.

Re: Q&A for me
Ok, here's what I'm thinking of for my front doors. Three sets of ti6m in series (1ohm load) active to front left and right.
Ti Tweeters 2 sets (2ohm load) active to the rear left and right.
On second elite.4 a set of ti9m on the front Chanel's and the rear Chanel's running 2pairs of digital design mids and a set of the new elite tweeters in the pillars running with a passive crossover.
All of this is up front..
Rear fill will be later. As well as subs will have to wait as there is no way to currently fit a sub amp.

Re: Q&A for me
are you saying all those speakers will be up in front of your car/truck?

Re: Q&A for me
Yes sir. I know it's overkill, but it will look awesome I hope. I also know the imaging won't be ideal but it will sound badass just the same. That's why I'm putting the comps in the pillars to bring the stage up a bit. I've been mocking up a door panel design. Hopefully I will be able to mound everything so I can do a test and see how it works out. Then I can move them around if needed.
Re: Q&A for me
not even sure what to recommend now, its all kinda confusing.... What kind of vehicle is this going in?

Re: Q&A for me
It's ok Scott don't hurt yourself, lol. I only listed the gear because you wanted to know.
All I was curious about is learning how to figure out how much power I need to run three ti6m active on a single Channel. I know that the amp can handle it. The elite.1 says it will do 300rms at 1ohm
I'm just looking for the math on this.
Also I'm looking at the ti6 specs and they say 300rms not peak. Is this not right?

And I know, my wife is always telling me I'm a shitty communicator.
Re: Q&A for me
Depends. Some component specs list the power ratings by the pair, and some do it by the driver. I would have thought PG would list it by the driver though.....Drock wrote: Also I'm looking at the ti6 specs and they say 300rms not peak. Is this not right?
Being loud without good sound quality is pointless, but having good sound quality without being loud is also pointless.
Re: Q&A for me
I know that's why I'm a bit confused. The spec sheet does not say total per pair.
Re: Q&A for me
so if your amp puts out 300 watts rms, and you run 3 speakers off of it, that means that your speakers will each see 100 watts rms.

Derrick - The spec states 300wrms for the set / systemDrock wrote:I know that's why I'm a bit confused. The spec sheet does not say total per pair.

Re: Q&A for me
Wow. Not to misleading. 150 is still plenty, but would it have been that difficult to add ( per set ) to the specs.
Thanks Bryan

Re: Q&A for me
Pg over the years have added mislead typo's and just plain odd things in there paper work.
But yes it is to just keep you on your toes...lol 100w per speaker of clean new elite power is just like double that of a cheap brand

Re: Q&A for me
Stayed up late last night and mocked up the setup for a door on my bench. And for basically a bunch of speakers sitting on a bench I gotta say, it's pretty impressive.
The setup is 3x ti6 2x ti tweeters 1x ti9 running active on and elite.4 and elite.2.
I definately prefer how it sounds without the crossovers. I just used this setup with the crossover built into the amps.
Do you guys think it would really make a difference if I used the mx3i crossover vs just using the amp.

Re: Q&A for me
no it will not really change anything unless you can't bandpass your 9" off the amp that the only thing i see or if you don't have a new style lpl and want to turn the 9 up and down to blend

Re: Q&A for me
What exactly is bandpass? I've the setup but never done it.
Re: Q&A for me
high pass lets the highs through
low pass lets the lows through
band pass will let a band of freqs between two point through
my Ti 9's will be running a band pass from 50-150 hz as recommended. this is not to be confused with a band pass sub enclosure though...

Re: Q&A for me
Thanks Scott. That's what I I was thinking but wasn't sure.
Re: Q&A for me
If you're going to run the 9" as strictly a midbass, I tend to think you'll almost have to run an independent crossover unless you just dedicate a channel to those 9" drivers. If you can dedicate a channel to each midbass driver than you wouldn't need the crossover. The crossover options on the Elite amps are pretty robust. You can set up a band pass mid bass range, say 80-250hz or whatever, but everything running off those two channels would have to be crossed there.
You're going to run 2 Elite.4's I think, so I would just give them their own channels, and then run everything else off the other 6 channels.

Re: Q&A for me
Ti 9's are recommended to play from 50-150 hz. Remember that passive cross overs will also eat up power as well.

Re: Q&A for me
Will not be using passive crossovers. I think I'm just going to use the amp crossover. Was thinking to use the mx3i but I don't think I need it.

Could you explain this a bit more, what kinda power we talking about?ttocs wrote: Remember that passive cross overs will also eat up power as well.

Re: Q&A for me
Yes, I don't understand this either. But I set up two systems to try this out today. Two elite.4'a one running ti6 comps with passive crossover and one running active without crossover. Both set with the same gains. I have no idea on how it works but there is a very noticeable difference in volume. I also much prefer the active setup. I know the passives are supposed to be perfectly set frequencies, but I find the active setup to be more clear, the mids just seem to me to stand up and shine.
