Looking to run F and R tweets high pass.F and R mids bandpass.midbass bandpass and sub lowpass.
Trying to keep all amps in bypass if possible.
Theres a bunch of crap out there. At least brands ive always considered crap.
That Mc Laren MLX1000 is made by REX Electronics. For some reason that name sounds familiar but I can't for the life of me figure where I know it. US Amps maybe IDK.
Just did a Google search. There was a brand called TAGMcLaren a few years ago that made high end home theater stuff. This isn't them. This is a small company from Florida that according to company profile info has 5-9 employees. That in and of itself isn't necessarily bad, I think Sundown Audio is similar, but this isn't the same company we're thinking of.
Could be the same quality as Boss/Crunch/Pyramid, or it could be like Sundown. Who knows? You'd kind of be buying a pig in a poke.
If you are vigilant you might can pick up an Audison Bit One or Bit Ten off ebay. You'll pay a little more, and you'll probably have to ship from Bulgaria, but if I was going to look at gear that wasn't Phoenix Gold, it'd be Audison.
Being loud without good sound quality is pointless, but having good sound quality without being loud is also pointless.
keep your amps in bypass if possible? Not sure what that means. If you want full balance and fading ability I would probably recommend more then one cross over to do all that work. Its been for ever now does the QX series have cross overs on board? I looked back at your list of gear but didn't notice if you had a deck picked out yet? You can always get a deck like the alpine 9887 which also has the ability to seperat the signals at the deck rather then off board. You obviously would not be able to run all the speakers off of it but you could always feed those signals into another cross over to finish separating the signals.
what else can I say I am a grumpy asshole most of the time.

Bypass meant I didnt want to use the crossovers built in the amps as they are notoriously glitchy.
Right now Im using the Kenwood Excelon X458.It has the 3 band para eq but not the crossovers built in. If/when I change decks it will an Excelon. Ive looked at the x997 with built in eq,crossovers and I think time alignment, but the reviews Ive read said it has horrible visiblity in daylight and menu system for the crossovers and such is long and tedious. Im still up in the air about it.
Ive been searching now for 3 way crossovers that have the x1 or X10 button so I can chain them together. Im thinking I can go that route for everything above sub. Does the basscube have a sub crossover built it and is it worth the 200+ dollar investment?
bass cube hasa sub-sonic x-over that is selectable, and I run them in all my cars......... $200 though no keep your eyes open and they can be found in good shape for much less. All it is,
What deck are you using? Does it have a subwoofer output? If it does then just use that output to the sub amp and then get a good 3-way cross over to do the rest of the work. Like I said above the 9887 has the ability to cross over the rca outputs on the deck so you would not really need an off board cross over.

seen some neat installs now for ipad mini's or other small tablets that came out slick.
Your kenwood deck probably has subwoofer controls right? I would just use that as it will give you the ability to adjust the volume of it from your deck to match songs, or if you want to blow someone out. By doing that you will not need such a large cross-over that is limiting you to only a few choices.

I have learned on this forum that there is no gain to give an amp that only requires 2V, any more. There is apparently a chance of harming the equipment. I am not so certain what damage it will do, but i am not willing to take that chance. Personally, i have a pile of M series and they only require 2V. You can however up the voltage from a line driver or TBA set and then dial it back at your EQ, which is what i plan on doing.

Both the PLD1 and TBA sets have an output gain pot to turn the voltage back, yes.
I had bought a PLD1 to use before i had even heard of the TBA sets and after learning about the balanced cables, decided i would like to go that route. The preouts on alot of decks are at least 4V so they are already more powerful than an M series needs. I will definately be keeping it as close to 2V as i can before the amps. I understand that not all amps are restricted to this voltage limitation so this is an exception.
BTW, EricD is the one who pointed this fact out to me as i had never heard this about the M series before. He may have saved my amps because before this i assumed: More Voltage= More Better

Ive decided to go with all Boston Acoustics speakers. I had a set of 746 4x6 plates and picked up 2 sets of Pro60SE's at a sweet deal today.
The Boston subs have a high efficiency so this should help me out with my fairly low power(at least by todays standards) old school amps.
I also like the fact that the Pro60's are 3 ohm.Thatll give me lil boost also.
Now should I go with the Boston passive xover or just go all active?
Ive also mostly decided to go with a Kenwood KDC-X997 head, hung out at one of my old haunts(John's Stereo and CB)today and Bucky was kind enough to hook one up on display board so I could play around with it.Pretty sweet deck.
love those mid/tweeter even off my old set up jl 300/4 75rms x2 they rocked. i tried 150rms bridged off that amp a side but being older the rubber started to crack . they still sounded great
most of my gear is gone :liar:

Stopped by Mechman Alternators today. They built me a 250amp Alternator while I watched. Pretty cool guys. My hats off to Josh for very friendly and super fast service. I mean how many places do you know where you can walk in looking for prices and info and literally walk out an hour and a half later with an alternator custom built to your specs. If your looking for an alternator give them a call. Ask for Josh. These guys know what they are doing. Best lunch break Ive ever had, lol.
