new-school ti 1600.5 or old-school MS2125 & MS275 ??

Post by damo4833 »

Well here i go yet again!!!
I think i'm pretty much pursuaded to go PG.
Over the Xtant amps, i've been led down the path towards the MS amps.

NOW, out of the blue - i've come across a SWEEET deal on a ti 1600.5!!!

new-school ti 1600.5 or old-school MS2125 & MS275 ??

So, anybody got words of wisdom towards the two different set-ups?

eric D?
zztunnell?
LowandLoud?
Kirghiz?

Thanks in advance -

think of it like this- pg sounds like pg. the new amps you will not have to change caps you will not need a x over and will use less current.
if you can get it for a good price i say do it!
the ms amp look great alot of them get damaged in shipping and the caps have to be changed and two amp plus xover will take up more space. so you need to ask yourself are you going old school look or just want it to sound great?
most of my gear is gone :liar:

No longer really "in tune" with the audio industry, and probably have not been for some time.
Hands down the forum's most ignorant member...

Seriously, people badly underestimate just how good the new Phoenix Gold amps actually are.
Being loud without good sound quality is pointless, but having good sound quality without being loud is also pointless.

If you can get a deal on a new Ti1600.5, and it fits your plans, i say go for it. A lot of people stick to the MS because they fell in love years back and have been loyal ever since. They are beautiful amps, but it seems you have no such attachment to them the way some do. There is a lot to be said for the reliability and peace of mind new gear brings.

As much as I love old school car audio,I vote for the TI if its a good deal. Hard to beat the versatility of those amps.

Retail is $999 I think, so I'd say $700ish would be considered good for one that's NIB. Less for one that's lightly used.
