History of Boston Pro components - models, changes etc?

Is there a website that details some of the history of the Boston Pro components? I'm looking for a basic brake down of when they first came out, and what the different generations were. I wanted a set in the 90's, but never looked too closely because of cost. I'm now trying to narrow down to which version(s) I should be looking for on eBay over the next year or so.

I appreciate there are probably many other options that may sound better, cost less or both, however I have a soft spot for Boston Pros (and to a lesser extent the PG zero point components that came out just as I was stopping my car audio hobby). I have a set of JL c5's to last me until I find some Boston's in the right condition at the right price too, so I can take my time. I saw someone got a set of the PG zero points for £92 on eBay uk in the past few years.

oooh, this could be my department, I too have a huge place for Boston in my life, home theatre, living area, work place, and both our cars.

I'm not a Boston dictionary, Boston released 6.x series then the pro 60SE, I would recommend going for the latest model Pro series, or if your lucky the ZR reference series.

I've had the older pros 6.4 and I def find the newer tweeters are better if not the whole package in the 60SE,

Ive come across sets between $100-250, the lower price missing the crossovers, which I dont use anyhow while running an active setup.

really like the old boston pro .... i still have a lot out of the .4lf series.....

there just badass..... i really love them..... almost 20years old and still

some people don't like them say the tweeters sound too agressive....titanium dome

well, then i say, listen to them on a MS/ ZPA amp...... really amazing sound......

Some people say the .4 series is the best boston ever build.......

but today there rare to find........

the first set of speakers that I was ever really truly wowed by were bostons. I think one of the most under-rated/unheard of brands to most people unfortunately.

It is for a good reason i will use the whole .4 series in my current car......

One negative point maybe ..... the 6.4lf woofers are real midbass woofers, not really kickbass woofers....

the kickbass will dissapoint maybe a little bid....... (that's why i'm planning to put 4 in each door )


but if you can get you're hands on the .3 series, don't hesisate....they use aluminium dome tweeters ( .4 series titanium dome)

just note that the 5.5 , 6.5 and 6.53 have a 3 ohm load (4.5 is 4 ohm)

6.2/6.4/6.5 are correct.....the others i don't think so...maybe there was a 6.0 version, but i don't know.......

I had the 5.5 and I really liked them. Yes the tweeters can be kind of harsh, but you can attenuate them and it makes them perfect.

What about the Z6? they were out the same time as a pro series I think, but the new pro series seems to take some of the z6 technology. I remember the first version of the Z6 having some HUGE crossovers.

I have personal experience with the 6.4, 6.5, Z6, Pro 60SE, and the SPZ60 speakers.

I like the Z6 the best, followed by the 6.5, then 6.4, then the SPZ60, and Pro 60SE versions.

The newer ones with the neo magnets just don't do it for me. They sound fine, but I have had friends burn up the 60SE with the same power they had no issue on 6.5s. My friend with the SPZ has not burned them up, but you can hear the strain on them at high output, which you don't hear on the Z6, or 6.5 and 6.4s.

I will also say this, and with anything, these are just opinions. The Z6 is better than the 6.5, but not worth the additional cost. The 6.5 sounds so good and handles so much power it is difficult to justify the Z6.

Even though I do like the Z6 more than the 6.5, I would prefer the 6.53 over any set Boston ever produced. I feel the 6.53 is hands down Boston's best.

It's starting to make sense to me. I think the ones I remember from back in the day, were the 6.4LF.

I think I'd have found it easier to follow if they'd stuck to 6.1, then 6.2 etc. Then it'd be easy to list them in order and note the changes (such as tweeter material etc).

I have yet to use these JL C5's I have, but am now on the hunt for some 6.4 or 6.5 I think, although I think so much will come down to condition vs price.

the 6.4 is a very good and clean set.

the pic of the 6.2 is actually a 6.5 set (3 ohm load)

the Original 6.2, i still have one set, do not search for it cause they really sound too agressive

and you're way better of with a 6.4 or 6.5 composet.......

Just realized that the last ones are not actual Boston Acoustics, but Boston Mobile Sound or something ... that explains why they're so cheap.

So they're real? I've not seen that logo before. They're so cheap though ...

They are not Pros, or Pro level. Stamped frame, and what looks to be just a tweeter crossover (mid might be playing full range). Boston has always made a range of products at different price points.
