I'm interested in the 2011 model lineup Ti series (Ti1600.5/Ti800.4) and I'm wondering what users have to say about them. Especially as compared to the Elite lineup. Is there a significant difference in the sound of the amps, or mostly just added power/headroom in the Elite series?
In addition, are there any users of Ti and Ti2 amps that can offer any thoughts on the difference in going from the Ti's class A/B fullrange channels to full class D in the Ti2 series? There's a HUGE space savings there...but does it come at the sacrifice of great sound?
Thanks!

The Elites are unbeatable amps in terms of sound quality. They are a cut above both of the Ti lines, and really every other amp Phoenix Gold ever made too. But, I'm a fanboy, and I own a pair of them, so you shouldn't listen to me. Instead, you should read what the biggest audiophile nerd of them all, Garry Springgay has to say about the Elite.4. He explains how great the amps are better than I ever could. He is however wrong about not being able to hear the fan if you install it in a backseat area. Fortunately you'd have to be wailing on it pretty hard to ever even need it, and you can turn it off with a switch.

Being loud without good sound quality is pointless, but having good sound quality without being loud is also pointless.

^^^ x'2 ...I currently run an Elite.5 and have had almost every amp PG has ever come out with
and hands down ....the new Elite series is the best sounding amp to date on the market
...not just an opinion, but honest feedback as I don't think any of us would spend upwards of a grand (or more per amp) if it sounded like shit ...no matter who the manufacturer is.

Regarding the a/b to d question. In my experience I've found class d to be rolled off on the top end. A/B seems to have a little more energy from the upper midrange to high freq. Just my .02.

Just to clarify, is this a general observation about class d amps, or a specific statement about the new PG Ti2 amps?sev1 wrote:Regarding the a/b to d question. Thx.

General. Haven't heard the ti2 amps. I have the JL HD and have heard a number of home class d and tripath amps.

I am not a big fan of the class d amps. I agree that the a/b seam to be better in the high ranges, and seem to me to be sharper and better sounding.
That being said I have the ti21600.5, and it is to my ears better sounding than any of my other a/b amps.
Not including the elites of course. There is nothing I would give up an elite amp for.
But for the amazing sound quality and small size of the new ti2 amps, And easy installation, it makes it very very hard to not consider them a wise choice for a new install.

Thanks again for your feedback. Much appreciated.
I may have to try to find a Ti21600.5 to play with in my upcoming amplifier tests.
Do these come up often for sale here? What do they go for used?

I have yet to see one for sale, either here or on ebay.captainobvious wrote: Do these come up often for sale here? What do they go for used?

I would like to get the four channel as well. I think two sets of elite65cs and an elite12 would be impressive off of the 5 and 4 channel ti2 amps. A small, simple, easy to install, and no need for a huge electrical up grade.
