Has anyone refinished any old school pg amps? I thought I would look cool for some zx amps that need cosmetic work and having a metal plating place strip the paint and refinish it in copper, and then get vinyl stickers to replicate the original graphics.
Has anything like this been done? I don't expect it to increase the value of the amp, I'm just thinking it would look pretty cool.
Obviously it wouldn't be 1 of 1 as they were never made from the factory, but it would be cool if there were not any others out there.

I've seen some refinished amps. Whether they're cool not depends strictly on taste. Your idea sounds cool to me man. I love the copper look. I say go for it and post some pics!

I have been working on a brushed stainless steel one, but the project has been slow going.

I agree that the copper-plate would be drop dead gorgeous!
You would definitely need to clear-coat it though. Or, it would corrode. And it would not take long at all.

Re: Making 1 of none amps
Ok so I'm bringing this thread back up because I just bought a zx475ti off fleabay. I'm sure some of you were watching it. It for those who didn't, this was a perfect candidate, it's cosmetics are pretty bad. Not sure if it functions, that I will find out when it arrives.
Anyways, I'm going to go through with this, how does ZX475cu stand for a name for it? Of course cu is the periodic table symbol for copper. I could also call it CU475.29, which is ever nerdier as 29 is the atomic weight of copper.
I dunno, I'll play with it a little. I need to find a vinyl ship who can cut the small detailed graphics for me, and be willing to modify the amp model name but with the same font.
Btw, his amp be getting used. I might make a display with it or it might just get out away for now.

Re: Making 1 of none amps
All i can say is no to copper. Even with clear coat applied, it doesn´t take long to start to corrode. It only takes a single warm up phase of the amp to start showing blemishes. I tried it with a MS2250.
If u want a copper colored amp make sure you powder coat or paint it.

Ah, thanks for the input jeorg. Even clear coat won't protect it?
Maybe I'll what can be done with powder.
