That is similar, but still a long way off. I think ED is in the clear on this one, but that is just my opinion.

If the ED had an over roll surround, yeah, I could see a problem.

Lets see....the basket is different. The motor is different. The voice coil is different. The cone is different. The surround is different....I'm going to go out on a limb and say that its a different product all together.

There are only so many ways to build a subwoofer...there are more similar comparisons on the market than those 2.

You have to admit, they had the jl w7 in mind when making that. The baskets are nearly dead on. Ed ran out of ideas, and the fact that this ends up being a 13 inch makes it more supicious... My guess is they want to be like jl. I could care less, I just thought it was interesting..

It doesn't help much that the the two companies likely buy their baskets at the same source..............

The only reason anybody would say the two are the same/similar/otherwise are the common lines of the basket, hell if somebody were to use a simialr line to the Ti Elite basket on their driver people would claim knock-off or wannabe. Simple fact all speakers have similar properties and the are only so many ways to package it.

...........you have to change your designs because my speaker has a cone, surround, voice coil, spider, and a magnet, yours has all of those things too, you must be copying me.

Again there are far better comparisons.
I think we've established that "Ka Ka" and "Tukki Tukki" don't work.

i agree,
i remember when rockford released the pwer series in 94

teh baskets were then seen soon after on the orion hcca woofers and other orion woofer like the NT series.

jl dont have any grounds to complain.... it doenst look that close to there woofer other then the size and basket.
You may have subs in your car........but my doors sound better!

You mean how Tang Bang "stole" Ben's design!

This is not the first, or last time Ben Milne has copied speakers. IMHO he is, well, let's just say not a nice person. This is the sole reason I will never buy anything ed. I simply can not give that guy any of my money. He has burned every damn bridge he has ever crossed, and soon he will run out.

People have been playing catch up with JL since '93 as far as I have observed, when the W6v1 made it's debut. I'm sure they'll move the game on again before too long.

Interesting...

Building a 13 inch woofer that is very cosmetically similiar (not exact) to JL's holy grail woofer you are asking for legal issues...

Whether they are legit or not is another story, but why would you take the chance and rattle JL's cage?

why not, wasnt focal the first one to have 13 inch woofers,

or was it some european company..not sure..

jl is a trend setter and to rattle jl cage only would give him more adverstiment on his product.

simple plan.

but a dumb one at that.

Not exactly the same. The RF/Orion example is a manufacturer buying a basket design from a manufacturer on a non-exclusive basis. Same reason certain Class D amps are similar guts, because they bought something off the shelf.

The dispute with JL might be something else. Just no the example above is a manufacturer buying stuff off the shelf (and others doing the same) vs. someone feeling their design is being copied.
