My work truck needs some audio help. It's an '89 Chevy full size pickup and I'm looking to install a new H/U and and replace the stock speakers. Nothing fancy, just replace what is there. What I would really like is a H/U that fits into the factory spot instead of relocating it into the middle of the dash like everyone else. Problem is I'm having a hard time finding one that dosen't cost a chit load of moola.
Anyone have any suggestons? I would really like to keep it under $150 if at all possible, thanks guys!!
I did one 2 yrs ago. 6 1/2" coax in the door, had to make a spot, but plenty of room. BUT!!!!!, the HU went in the pocket you're trying to avoid. Pretty straight forward/simple.
"ZPA's will have the same sound essentially as you get from the MS, they just feature a bigger shinier set of balls."
I know it will go in that pocket, and there are many, many kits available for it, but I would just like to not move it if I can aviod it. Plus I don't want to reach into the middle of the truck to operate the H/U.
Pioneer has a few, but they are a little pricy new. If I could find an older model (new or lightly used), that would be ideal!
If you want to use the factory location by the steering wheel and not relocate to the middle of the dash, you are SOL for kits, you will need to build your own.
The factory box is narrower than a standard DIN mount unit. Plus the factory unit is just a control center, the actual radio/amp is under the dash to the right of the steering column.
I think we've established that "Ka Ka" and "Tukki Tukki" don't work.

Fawk me!!! I guess I'll just bite the bullet and install it in the middle like Doc did. I know kits are readily available for that relocation so I should be allright. Brenz says to look for the Metra kit so I'll do that.
So, anyone have any suggestions for the speakers? The will be run off of the H/U and go right into the factory locations. Like I said, nothing fancy here.
For the money, Infinitys top of the line 4 x 6 coax's impressed the hell out of me in a friends car. Don't get your hopes up, they are 4 x 6's, but those things got pretty low for thier size.
I'm thinking I'll go with this H/U from Crutchfield because of the free install stuff and free shipping. The free install stuff will save me a chit load alone!
