Ti2 amps headunit mute pop?

Post by Imk'ed »

Im still trying to work this one out, i posted a thread about this earlier on in the year but was and still confused at this. Im running a ti2 1600.5 and an alpine hu and everytime the headunit mutes ie when u change track or volume to zero orchange source it makes a pop through speakers. Morgan did reply saying that being a balanced input its picking up a spike from the rca ground but my previous amp jl 900/5 was balanced input but never did this. Guess im just curious what the cause is as ive never had an issue likethis.

Some further testing with the hu rca with a dmm shows the rca ground to be constant ground no matter what but the centre pin is grounded whenever the hu mutes.

Any help or guesses why guys?

Thankyou

then the deck is sending it out and the amp is just amplifying it. What kind of deck is it again?

did you try a ground loop isolator already?

I havnt, im sure it will sort it as it will isolate the direct short of the rca to ground, but its a band aid in my opinion. my guess is theres caps on the input of the amp that discharge when hu mutes, reason i think its caps is if i make it pop it wont pop again till 5-10 secs later.

I honestly have never had one help but I think here it might help to smooth it out or cancel it all together. The amp doesn't react to the deck muting in any way that I know of. Again sorry if I am asking all the same questions we went over last time but have you tried a different source? I mean if you see the deck doing something on its output before the amp would not leave me thinking there is something wrong with the amp but the source.

I have tried another deck but it was a pioneer and had noisy rcas already i could hear the cd laser etc, its funny it was fine with my jl amp before just this one, i mean im sure PG would know some decks mute the rca centre pin via ground? Are you running this amp?

I own it but unfortunately I am far away from powering it up.

So the pioneer did or didn't make the pop?

No it didnt when volume was zero but noisy on power on and cd laser noise, im guessing thats the pico fuse issue or just a noisy hu and the balanced input picks it up.

try a 3rd source even if its an mp3 player with a headphone to rca jack. If your using noisy sources fed to a nice amp with good power like the elites and they are going to amplify the noise just as much the do the signal. That doesn't mean there is anything wrong with the amp. I have had issues like that before and the only way to fix it is get the source fixed, use a different source or turning the gain on the amp down so it will not amplify the noise as much.

I had a similar prob in a customers car years ago with an alpine deck and rockford amps. Called rockford tech and they said to run a 10ga wire from the amps ground to the radio chassis. I thought they were crazy and I'd cause all sorts of ground loops but it worked. Not sure if it will help you but it might be worth a try.

One shop I worked at in Scottsdale would run a ground and a remote wire back to the radio. I do not remember any noise issues there.
