How many RMS watts can I send to RDS comps

Post by wmpron »

Hey guys,

Just pulled the trigger on some 6.5" RDS components. Now I need to figure out how much AMP I need. How much (rms) power are people running to them safely?

Just a note, these will be going in my S2000, which only has components in the cabin (no rears) so I'll need to crank these puppies w/ the top down :)

Space for the amp is very limited also so I think I'm going to go with an alpine PDX

I've had two different setups with them.

One with 40-50W per channel and one with ~100W per channel. 100W per channel is pretty damn loud. It's not SPL record breaking or anything but it's loud.

I've heard of people here putting about 300W to each channel with RSd comps but I can't confirm that.

If I remember correctly, doubling your power increases output volume by 3dB. So 300W vs 100W would be something like 5dB difference or so. Either way, it's as loud as I ever need it with 100W per side.

Just wondering how many watts people have fed safely, and what kind of dB I can expect.

They will be replacing some Polk db6500's that were way to harsh up high.
