I have to admit that I am, whilst pant shittingly scared of, utterly fascinated by Nuclear Weapons and A bombs and so forth.
I have done alot of research and watched alot of documentries on the subject which is weird tbh. It's weird because I am and have always been terrified of the thought of the use of such weapons. But something inside me lures me to learn more about these things.. I suppose in a way it's the means of confronting my fear, and that the best way to confront it is to do it.
I was always terrified of spiders, I had nightmares about them constantly when I was a kid. Way to fix that fear? buy a big fuck off hairy tarantula and play with it all the time. Before long I was looking into spider's webs and throwing small pieces of leaves into the web to make them think something was caught, and come down into the web so I could see which type of spider had spun the web. And I ended up pretty fond of spiders tbh, more research showed that they do a damn load more good than harm, they take care of fly and moisquito populations and so forth and most are completely harmless to humans..
Anyways, back on topic. The first time I learned about nuclear weapons (Well Atomic and then Thermo NW) was when I was about 8 years old @ primary school. I remember my teacher bringing a bottle of fairy liquid into the class and telling us how something packed into a casing that small could pretty much destroy the whole earth. I had nightmares for fucking weeks
That 'lesson' would have me sitting up all night terrifed looking out of the window waiting for this war to happen and for us all to die..
And my fear never ended about nuclear war until a couple of years ago. It even affected me through my teens and I became an insomniac because I wanted the last four minutes to tell my mother how much I loved her. And thinking about nodding off and missing that chance was enough to keep me awake for days at a time.
I'm not attributing the insomnia totally to the fear I had, drugs, anguish of being a teen and all other things did'nt help (which is why I once told Alex that as much as being a teen was fun I would rather die than go back and do it again).
My fears were kind of forgotten for years, I didnt even think about it until 911. Then it all became a stark reality again. And again the insomnia began and the worry. And then I decided I was fucking tired of that stupid dumb fear and began to look into these weapons. And before long I wasnt scared anymore and quite frankly would actually go outside to watch them being detonated. I mean afterall I fucking helped pay for them eh?
But the subject really has me hooked. I know exactly what is needed to detonate a atom bomb and a few weeks ago began looking into the much more complicated Hydrogen (or Thermo nuclear) bomb.
Anyways tonight I stumbled on an article from a magazine called 'progressive' basically this was the first whistle blowing media article on what went into a Hydrogen (or thermoNW).
This article was banned from print by the USA using what they then called 'Prior Restraint' which was basically fucking censorship given a nice word like it was there to protect someone or something.
And they fought this in court and got the article released, and it makes for cracking reading
So here it is, the article is from 1979 and the entire magazine edition was based upon "The H bomb Secret... To Know how is to ask why"
I found it utterly fascinating, and a victory for free speech
