sub mounting question

Post by kg1961 »

I own a 2003 vw gti
I would like to mount the amp and sub on the side walls
Is there a better side aka driver side louder for the driver or pass side better or making a normal sub box firing to the rear
Lmk what is best need some bass not spl just clean and sealed
Sun will be a jl 10w6v2 or a boston pro 10.5lf 2ohm off a ppi art ax606.2 minty
Lmk

you might notice a small difference but unless someone happen to build a system in the same car and played with the location to see how it sounded it would be hard to say.

You could make a test box that you can move around and see if it louder in one place or the other.

I would be more inclined to pick a side possibly depending on how the wiring was ran or for easier access then the sonic differences.

the only time I got to play with a sub box that allowed us to play with its direction was for 2 10s in a crx. We could only flip it but found the only real difference was when it faced backwards. Up or forwards sounded the same but there was a gain we could both hear when facing back. I would probaly fire it up if I could not get it to fire backwards and again on facing either side I don't think it will matter much but never done it. See if you can find a cheap prefab box somewhere local or on craigslist and you can test it out.

I have a 91 civic hatch back this the second one I have owned have had this one 15 years firing the subs to back has always had more gain. The old one I had I had 3 8w6 fired that to the back hatch also started to do a fiberglass enclosure using the spare tire well this is when I worked at the stereo shop never finished it to busy working on everybody else's shit didn't have time to finish it and got rid of the car. I put 3 8w6 in a new toyota supra this was in 95 96 used the spare tire well in that and it sounded great they were firing straight up no one could believe that it only had 8s in it. Those were some impressive 8s and were only ran off a pc650. Hard to go wrong with a hatch back. The last system I had in the car I have now was a oldschool 12w3d4v1 jl audio premade dual bandpass box the port was on the side and it took up the whole hatch back I ran it off a ms2125 up until I sold the box last summer it hit hard

Also had a single oldschool kicker solo 12 in a band pass box in the civic that I still have port firing to the back ran off of a pc650 that sounded good also. If anyone needs the box plans I still have them two different plan's one with more gain the plans came from kicker have had them since 92 I think I haven't seen them in while but I am sure I can dig them up if anyone would like to try it out I had 4 of them in my spl truck won the finals with that box design 4 in bandpass 2 in sealed ran off two mps2500's. Sorry for getting of topic :D
