nick-caper wrote:So what you are saying is that if I take the inside prong (positive) and outside shield (negative) and solder them together this will make that amplifier channel dead silent?
LOL Well I got news for you pal..
No it dont work that way in all amps.
As a matter of fact when I accidentally dropped the RCA plugs on my new Polk Audio Home Theater Subwoofer the thing shita brick and made allot of humming noises. I looked at what caused it and it was the pos and neg touching the fram of a metal cabinet.
I also remember a manual of an old Pioneer head unit that specifically said never short the RCa plugs with shorting caps or your head unit will be void of all warranty.
I wont be shorting out any amp or stereo just cause the plug might get some crazy radio waves injected in it from near by lights, UFO's or Tv units..
hmmm whos opinion should I go with errin and marcs or yours.....I think Ill go with the guys who have been in the industry for 10 plus years.
Can one send others to war if hes not willing to go himself?
smgreen20. Did I call anybody names? lets look real close who is creating a mess here. I did say I was talking about amps, adcom and carver and also head units. can you read before you start cursing me out?
Also what the hell happened here? I came in here reading about something and that I had experience with. it seems noone cares about what I say cause Im an outsider! Well if there were no outsiders or new people how would you have a forum?
Sorry if I am not an engineer. I do have 17 years expereince installing and soldering and fixing all kinds of stuff. but I can see peopel here love to flame.
Just look at my post. Did I call anybody names? NO I asked a question. Noone answered. All you people did was sit around and wait till people stared picking a fight. is this the way the forum is gonna be for new people?
im not new actually. I was on Soundbuggy for a long time till someone decided to let it go to spammers. Didnt seem respectful to me cause I was really into that forum. Well. Look. if you peopel want to start shit with me cause I have an opinion about RCa's then kick me off. I dont need that drama. id like to stay and maybe learn instead of gettin shit on..
PG Phorum is like a box of empty chocolates. Nothing to appreciate and no satisfaction.
i didnt call anyone names...and i cant speak for everyone here....but you seemed to dog people saying that they are wrong....did you check my post...on that website? did you scroll down to 8.1?
Wait who dogged who first?
I told you what I thought about shorting our RCa's without being mean or saying anything like "dogging" But the next message was saying "its about to get ugly" Which to me seems pretty much like someone is about to dog me! I then politely asked what was going on cause it seemed I said something wrong.
I thought this was a forum. Forums or for speaking your mind, saying your opinion, telling people about your experinces and learning from others. To me what happened her is assault on my charater for telling people what I believed what was right or wrong. So what if I am wrong? You arent ever wrong? Im glad you pointed out a website that might educate me a little but its kinda too late cause you people already decided that I need to get jumped. Just look at the comments. Passing chips and drinks like its gonna be so fun watching people slander my character cause I thought shorting out RCa's was a bad idea.
Is this why Sound Buggy went to shit?
Wow. What bright future I see for Phoenix Phorum.
Whether I am here in the future or not, you people need to be ashamed. This is F^& rediculous.
PG Phorum is like a box of empty chocolates. Nothing to appreciate and no satisfaction.
Many of you participating in this thread are over-reacting, and I don't mean that in a way which assaults anyone's character.
This isn't a big deal.
The forum regs got a little annoyed because nick-caper resurrected several old thread that he had opinions on. While this is considered somewhat rude in the world of forum-goers, it's not like it was a really big deal when it comes down to it and we can all get passed that. Like I said before, had this become a lengthy trend, that would be fairly obnoxious. But it wasn't really at the level of obnoxious yet, just going in that direction.
I understand a cold welcome sucks. But you (nick) also have to see it from our point of view if you can for a moment. Phoenix Phorum has actually rather small amount of fighting and disrespect thrown around. We, for the most part, attempt to act "civil" with each other. Don't get me wrong, we've had our battles and some of them very emotional but almost every time I've seen it happen, all parties were able to man up and get over it and move on. Some of us now know what to bring up and what to leave out so that we can all enjoy discussion surrounding our common hobby of mobile audio and of course, specifically PG instead of forum drama. And trust me, we all hate forum drama. Which is why I'm going to try and make a shot at snuffing this drama out.
I'm an administrator here, but it's not because I have a long history with these people or know a lot about car audio. I fell into this world because the guy who runs this website happens to be one of my best friends and he wanted both to include me in this (got my first vehicle while we lived together) and to have me around as a backup admin/tech for the site.
What I joined was a wonderful community of guys (any females?) who came together to share experience and information, ask questions and participate in something social. These people aren't mean-spirited. These people aren't going to bite your head off.
You got a cold welcome, I admit. But you made a cold entrance. Most people would like to have seen something along the lines of a post where you introduce yourself (details, are of course, optional) and get familiar with everyone before you root up a bunch of old threads with strong opinion.
I'd be happy if everyone could just man up, let this slide, and get off on a better foot than last time. And if not, hey, I tried.
Sorry if everything is just out of whack....But hey....internet/email/forums dont always portray feelings/emotions/and things of that nature. I guess i for the most part just take a bit of it more, since you started off on the Cyclone stuff. So...sorry if my comments are a bit more harsh. I just felt your comments were premature...or not really understanding what they are talking about..
So....again I asked a question...did you check out the 8.1 spot on that web site?
On the input of an amp, preamp, eq, or any other audio component, if it is left unloaded and active it will pick up certain amounts of radiated noise. The best way to effectively eliminate this is to make a shorting plug. This is done as close to the device as possible, if a longer cable is used then that cable may act as an antenna and pick up more noise. If as you say this creates noise then the connector you are using is not a true 75ohm connector and the device is designed specifically for use with one, you can correct the situation bu adding a resistor in the line.
Any properly designed component will allow for this on the input.
I think we've established that "Ka Ka" and "Tukki Tukki" don't work.
Thanks. I did check out the website.
And thanks for teaching me something I didnt know.
The thing with the Cyclone is that i am excited about getting one. Its not just a used one. I was lucky to find one new in box. So I figured I would ask some questions about it before I start using it cause I never had one other than the one I bought off ebay about 2 years ago and got ripped for $350 cause it didnt even move!
I even bought a box from bdubs (I think that was him) that he said was used for the cyclone he had. I been looking for years for one and cant believe I got a new one! Now that i have it I kinda dont wanna use it! LOL

if the amp have balance RCA input on it don't use a shorting plug. however nobody seem to have this feature on car amps anymore so you shouldn't have to worry about it as it won't hurt a regular rca setup. the old adcom car amps had them.
I fried a $3200.00 onyko home receiver 7 years ago with a mute plug. I never fully recovered from it.
if you want to eliminate crosstalk, don't buy a dual mono amp (they are too expensive for one). buy 2 amps. you use one for the left side and one for the right. you can bridge them for super high power or you can bi amp the 2 channels
