Phoenix Gold current amps

Post by jjohan35 »

Is it accurate to say that for given similar specs, RSD > Octane-R > Ryval? Is that the order of top class to lower class?

I ask because I often see the Ryvals being more expensive than the Octanes.

I believe the Ryval is the replacement for the Octane-R. So it should be RSD>Ryval.

Am I right about this?

How do the old octanes perform in comparison to the rsd and ryvals? because the octanes are really cheap and i am wondering if i should grab them.

i haven't played with the ryvals, but the circuitry leads me to believe they should be very similar to the octane, so they are a toss up

the rsd will beat both of them. they have more output devices, power supply sections built for more headroom, better crossovers.

although one thing the octane has over the rsd's is EVERY octane amp has an lpl port....

only rsd mono amps have lpl ports...

The Octanes are a solid amp. They are worth picking up if you are getting them at a significant discount.

As previously mentioned Ryval is in fact replacing the Octane as an entry level product line.
I think we've established that "Ka Ka" and "Tukki Tukki" don't work.

But I am told they're made in China? That's the only thing that keeps me from buying the newest PGs. I have a tantrum, probably the last line that was made in the USA.

that is true. however, by the numbers, the china made amps do have a lower failure rate the the previous lines...and if you do need a repair (rsd's come with a 3 year warranty when purchased from a authorized retailer) they are repaired right here in Portland Oregon

its your call though, there are tantrums on ebay pretty often for quite a deal, and i honestly like the tantrum a little better then the rsd's because they are a little more versatile

I can get an octane 80 rms x 4 for $110 new. I can get a tantrum 600.4 (75 rms x 4) used on ebay for the same price. Based on what you see in the repair department, which line has less failure rate?

personally, i would take the tantrum hands down.

and the octane-r are rated at peak power, not rms.

so the tantrum is rated (conservitivly) at 75 x 4

while the octane-r's rms is 75x4 for the R8.0:4 and 50x4 for the R5.0:4

Pretty much any brand new amplifier you buy will be made in China. Made in the USA is gone in the car audio scene.
