new shit

Post by ydnap »

God I fucking hate laptops. I just spent 10 mins typing and the touch wank thing did something and I lost it all. FUCK !

Anyways, heres your old uncle P looking all fatter and happy !

Image

And me new T for when I work on the car

Image

I got given another set of tweeters from a mate I have here so in they went. Theyre wired to the HU for one reason, so I can get the diagnostic sounds from the HU that dont go to the amps. Theyre on the rear of the outputs and all the amps are on the front, so I can fade them out completely.

Image

My back is out again today so I couldnt do a houdini into the back of the tib to shoot the new 6x9s. Sorry :(

But, my final project began yesterday (the one I was keeping quiet).

The 3rd light Meg made melted then broke from the window. Its fucked, and was making a burning smell (cos of the melted lens on the bulb) so I disconnected it. First night out here in OH a tractor trailer almost rear ended me at a light when I didnt pull away at first. He couldnt see my brakelight on.

So I had ideas for this ages ago, and now I have made it. It's a custom made light bar that sits on the rear shelf. It began life as a 2" PVC pipe that was cut with a mitre box and assembled as follows -

Image

Mocked.

Image

Test in position -

Image

Megs light needs to come out. didnt do that til I was done..

Image

And here it is bondoed, painted and smoothed all finished..

The law requires that you have a third brake light?!?

What kind of car is that?

If it were me, and that was the law, i'd try to find a nice lip spoiler w/ a 3rd brake light.

It's a tiburon and he already removed the spoiler to make it more "sleek" I believe.

Struck me as Tiburon style but i wasn't sure. That's a pretty crazy law....i mean, is there really much of a difference between having 2 and 3 brake lightS?

Because once a tractor trailer or any vehicle with a high cab gets within about 20 feet of you your brake lights dissapear out of his vision. The third one (youll note) is always in the back window at the bottom, and cocks upward slightly toward the sky.

It was a safety feature added in the early 90s.

I have had a couple of near misses since removing mine. Usually when waiting at a red light with a TT behind me and he goes AS SOON as the light changes and expects Im doing the same. Im usually lighting a cig or changing a cd out lol.

Get caught without one and if the cop knows what hes doing youll end up with a ticket for operating an unsafe vehicle.

I don't believe they have that law here in the land of Zion. Come to think of it, how can they make that a law when probably half of the cars on the road were made before they started to install the third brake light? :? :? :?

just like seatbelts if the car wasnt fitted with them you dont need to have them, the brakelight is the same way. Car makers fit things they have to when the law changes, theyd go bankrupt if they had to go back and refit them on all the cars without them :D

Anyway, Im finished. And its actually alot more subtle than i thought it would be, I really like it because its very unique :)

oh indeed :)

It wasnt meant to be a showpiece.. Infact alot of my car hasnt been done for show, it's been done for safety.

The seats I used to have were terrible when hard cornering. You slid all over the place and the belts in there were recalled so many times I gave up. The recoil didnt work properly so they were always loose. I decided on the flared side buckets with harnesses for safety :)

same goes for the lightbar. I dont want a tractor trailer rear ending me, and the other night I came really close. That would definitely spell the end for the Tib :(

Same goes for the fogs, the OEM ones were all misted and shitted, and I drove off a curb once by accident and bent both the focus things underneath, rendering them screwed. OEM replacements are about $100 each, the ones I got were $25 from wally world and are alot brighter, even more bright than my headlights. See? :)

Image

Hood pins were done for safety too, I was in a crash once because my friends hood came up, and on the expressway I noted that the hood started to bounce a bit. I didnt put them there for show :)

Im a safety freak see, I dont even like going on rollercoasters because I have anxiety attacks, so I am seriously obsessive about everything being safe and sound on my car. Thats why its never broken down, because I OCD and do the oil changes 500 miles early, change the plugs and wires every three months and flush everything every 4 months and replace it :)

I do love my car, and I really do take great care of it. You tend to learn to appreciate shit when you grow up poor.

I'll give you this much Andy, although I don't always like the things you do, you do seem to have great fab skills. I wish I had half the creative mind that you do when it comes to this sort of stuff.

I also respect the fact that you are proud of your work. Although I don't always see eye to eye with you on some things, your stuff still looks pretty good. Good job man, keep it up if this is what you love to do!

Thanks man :)

Im no expert on anything really tbh. I just look it up on the net and go to work.

I was raised that way, when I was 11 I complained to my mother about my bedroom which my dad was supposed to redecorate before he died. he died when I was 7. She said "I'd call your uncle and see if he will do it" so I did. He said he would do it. Cool !

So I come home from school the next day and the hallway was lined with paint cans, drop cloths, masking tape and rollers.. "hmm, wtf?" so I asked my mother what was going on and she said my uncle had left it and asked me to call him, so I did. "If you thought I was going to do it for you youre crazy mate" he said. So I got to work, 11 years old.

I was so fucking proud afterwards lol, didnt do a bad job either :D

Since then I have done everything I want doing myself. Alot of it isnt perfect but that doesnt matter to me, as long as I did my best (with the money I can afford to spend) then Im happy with that, course it would be alot better if I had money to chuck at it but hey, I'd rather get my hands dirty and know I did it anyway.

Actually I just went outside with a notepad and pen because I was curious just how much I have done to that car. I was out there a good fucking hour

And here it is, pretty fucking stupid tbh, but hey it's been a great way to waste my time and watch the hours go by :) and Ive enjoyed most of it (all except the fucking bondo and prep work on the body, that was truly horrible.

Just went out to the car with a pen and note book and listed all the shit I have done to the car. And its a bit insane lol.

Just nipped out to finally watch the end of SWepII and realised I could get some pics of the new fujitsu ten 6x9s.

Here is one side, this is 'Martinez' Long story, but I won him from a never lose crane game years ago (first day I was in the USA) and hes always been in my ride ever since. Started in my V8 F150 then into the Taurus and finally into the tib. Hes dirty, faded and beaten and I hate the Yankees but hes an old pal :D

Image

And the other side.. I won this fucker out of a crane game for my ex wife in Ocean City on July the 4th just before she walked out on me. So I put him on the other side. Bitch got the telly man but she wasnt getting my Ernie.

Image

And the crossovers and where I put them :)

Image

Im hoping to get the matierials to make the cover panels for the trunk next week. Moneys tight right now cos I am still looking for work here in OH :)

And my finished dash (until I can find another way to add a new ass to my swine)

Image

Best seat in the house !

Image

And one of my favorite additions, my wheel. The speakers for the back came with a couple of spare logos so I stuck one on the centre.

Pandy you need to re-look at a couple things. You say you can get a ticket for no 3rd brake light right? Did you know you can get a ticket for no seat belt as well? FYI the police do not accept the harness as a seat belt as it is not DOT approved/standard. You also mention safety, yet you have an after-market steering wheel in place of one which used to contain an airbag?

Props to you though mang, you have more determination than most people I know all wrapped up into one suave pussy-magnet british accented mug. :D

according to the ohio vehicle regulations there is no law stating you have to have a 3rd brake light. PAGE 27 for taillight laws
http://www.bmv.ohio.gov/pdf_forms/HSY-7607.pdf

As far as people not being able to see you stopped at a red light because they can't see you stopped because there is no 3rd brake light thats just a dumb reasoning. If you are stopped at a red light 3rd brake light or not anyone behind you should know they have to stop until the light turns green and you start moving.
And if you are really concerned about laws better get rid of the blacked out lights you have done because that is illegal in ohio and probably all other states as well as Canada.

I'm not sure of the Ohio law but I am getting there. Jersey is strict, we're talking gestapo here. So I'm kinda paranoid now, esp after getting clawed that night in NJ by that cop and getting points and a fine for my tails.

The blacked out lights are off the car :) they have been since the night I got stopped in NJ. I was considering putting them back on because I have seen cars with underglo driving right past the cops.

Errin.

The harnesses were put in for safety. With those I don't really care what the cops think (tho all of them have seen sense so far and not even mentioned them)
When I got the car the first thing I did was check the recalls. The original belts were on the list because they cannot retract properly, meaning theyre always loose.
So I took it to Hyundai who first changed the mechs. They were exactly the same.. So I took it back and they handed me some mechs. LOL.

I don't drive like a maniac, but I do like to take corners very briskly lmao. Thus I want to feel safe. I know the harnesses are alot safer than any stock seatbelt, only thing I would have to worry about is my cranium detatching from my spine (Dale earhart anyone?) but my car couldnt go fast enough for that to happen, unless I fell asleep and drove into a oncoming truck or a brick wall

The airbag in the original steering wheel was fucked. As was the other one. I got an airbag light the day I got the car and it turns out they were both 'expired' according to Hyundai. So I didnt trust them anyways.. With the harnesses it's not like I would need the fucker anyway :)

GR. Im not concerned about the law so much dude, sure I dont want tickets but Im more concerned about safety.

Thanks alot for pointing me to those laws though. I have looked high and low for clear cut ones for NJ but it seems the bastards would rather suprise you :)
