tower of power part two

Post by nico boom »

So last time I posted a pile of amps, stacked together in our spare-room.
A shame, not to use them, and not to be able to look at the interior of these amps.
Some of you guys already know that I'm using the beautifull MS-series amp[s] for my home-install.
After a lot of thinking, this is the result.....
The making of... my perfect tower of power!
It's far from ready, but just wanted to share the beginning, beeing excited about this new project. :D
In the topsection, there will be a BRAX voltmeter, as well as the remote-switch, surface-mounted.
The BRAX IPC on the bottom, will get company of two distro-blocks, sitting on that little shelf that holds it.
All wires will be fed thru the inside of the tunnel.
Also got some spray-painting to do, the colours match my furniture in the livingroom.
The MS2250 will power the towers, and the MS2125 will power the peerless XXLS-12 sub in bridged-mode.
I can chose from three EQ's; 215, 215X, 230.
Using the 215X, offeres the possability to control the sub, so that will be my first set-up. maybe I'll add the basscube as well, when needed.
[For the pics, took the MPS2500; the MS2250 is currently still mounted inside my t.v-cupboard].
Hope you enjoy with me!

Goodmorning guys; nice to see you enjoy with me!
Tom; it's got a hidden brace at the back, which is screwed down to the wall...
I know my little guys..
There's no way they can knock it over.
Also when the glassplates are slid into the pillar, and an amp is resting on it, there's no way you can pull it out again, because the glassplate" wants to tilt" in that slot.
A few days ago, I decided to test the sub with the 2125, and MAN that amp plate sucks!!
With the 2125, it sounds"in phase",and has the "attack" and depth, that I wanted of this closed system.
As far as I could hear then, I won't be needing the basscube.
This morning, I started with the wiring, everything going smooth.
At first, putting those 6kg heavy amps on the hardened glass-plates [10 mm. thick],was kinda scary.... but they were calculated to hold 20kg at ease.
I added the cap just for fun; I wired the 2125, and 2250 up, like they will be in the tower, and played as loud as I dared for the neighbours..
They draw only about 20-25 amp. together.
Remember they play at an 6 ohm load [towers] and 8 ohm [sub].
They are just over running at idle!
[And I don't need to wreck the house with that sub].
Updates will follow, I'm going back to my work.

Made some progress; set is playing, wires temporarely installed.
First wanted to test if no noise was picked up by the interlinks, due to running through the same tunnel...
Nope! It's completely silent . :)
Now it's just making the cables run smooth, and nice to look at.
It prooves to be the best, to use the remote-sensing output of the power-supply; using it will keep the voltage firm at 14.4, no matter how loud I play. The BRAX voltmeter glows gently besides the remote-switch on top of the tunnel, to turn on the amps after the power-supply has come to life in the basement.
In this new set-up, with the MS2125 running the peerless xxls 12, my couch is moving beneath me sometimes, without hearing so much bass; it's playing really low, and tight.
I just discovered why that big plate amp didn't play as nice as I expected; it has a protection-cicuit of 24db, at 25 Hz.... WTF! It's supposed to be a SUBwooferamp!
Anyway, I'm very much enjoying the result so far, and when played in the evening, those lights from the boards remind me of..hmm... Amsterdam haha
The MS275 is just sitting there to be looked at; have to decide I'll put the MPS2500 there, or just keep it this way.[what a choices a man has in life].
Only have to buy new speaker-wires; will pick up "the suitcase"at titus, my home-audio-friend.
He has this case, full of sets of speaker-cables, to try-out at home, to make sure you buy the right cable to go with your install.
Keeps me bussy; that's what hobby's are for.

Nice to hear you also enjoy guys.
HEY Soth; nice avatar man!!
I'm gonna add 4 very little silicon dampers underneath every amp, hardly visible because they're transparent.
This way the amps will not be able to slide across the glass.
And no, Marko; I,ve not asked Phil yet, what that slot is doing there.. :?:
Finishing touches are to be made, happily I'll have some work to do on that.

SHEAR WEIGHT !   and gravity of course. I like the silicon footers idea.
My folks collect glass by Fenton. everything is anchored with double side foam tape, especially here in earthquake country.

What a hobby, collecting glass while living in earthquake country. I been meaning to get my folks a mental health check up lately

Lucky for me; we don't have any earthquakes here, otherwise I'd have second thoughts about this construction....
Just imagine the sound of my rack, tossing the amps around through the room in the middle of the night..
Just managed to get hold of a pair of very good Monster-cable interlinks, for just a few bucks.
Will use them to replace the three different brands I was currently using.
I'll make a post here, about how I ended up using my MS amps in the setup I have now, just to give you guys an idea of the fun I'm having.
Have a good Sunday.

The graffiti; hahaha! my oldest son Daniel [4] did that, in just a few seconds, when my wife was upstairs...
When she came back, and saw it, she was very pissed off at first, and asked him; that's very naughty Daniel!!!, what do you think about that yourself?... he replied; I think it is the best tree I have ever made mom...

So after trying everything to clean that wall; it won't come off, and now we're used to it, and just enjoy it.
Maybe Daniel will be a world-famous artist later, and this "early work" will be worth millions...
Our kids; we love them indeed.
As far as the stereo-rack; Thanks for the comments;I enjoy this setup every day.
Nothing beats a system that sounds good, and also is a joy to look at! :D

Yip kids rool :D

Here is a piece of writing I did about little Molly (my room mate's 4 y/o daughter..) from my myspace blog.

I'm sure it'll make you smile as much as I smiled reading about the artwork

The wonder that is kids

I still can't divulge my exact whereabouts. Though it's pretty obvious I am somewhere in Ohio.
Thankfully I can now tell people to fuck off and not have to feel their wrath.

Anyways, so here I am.
I am living with a friend, and he has 2 daughters. One is called Covee (not his but he treats her as his which is remarkable) and the other is Molly.

Now I'm no stranger to being around kids. I spent every available moment back in Jersey with Megan, she's Oliwias baby girl (she's in the pic with my ace step sister Ashley).
Some of the escapades that have been going on over the last couple of weeks have been nothing short of hilarious. Kids will never cease to amaze me. In a way I guess it helps us adults realise that the world aint such a shitty, scary place.

So today was one of the funniest (though worrying, sheesh kids give you constant bloody heart attacks lol)
I wake up thismorning, Molly is screaming for her dad.
I find her on the toilet (lmao I shouldnt laugh because its kinda cruel) yelling. So I ask her "whats the matter darling?" she says "I want my dad !" so I ask again "whats up? your dad is very tired and needs to sleep sweetheart" at which point I went and asked Covee to take care of it.

So then about an hour later I get up (around 10 had a late night) and I can hear this slurping.
She's bent over the toilet drinking toilet water through her juice box straw. EWWW.
Of course at first sheer panic hit me. Like "Fuck ! what am I gonna do !" after a good scalding :"Molly ! daddy will slap your legs if he catches you doing that !" she stopped. In hindsight though that image of her bent over that toilet will remain with me forever, as one of the funniest things I have ever seen in my life. LMAO.

It got even funnier though. My friend works nights, he works 12 hour shifts with 2 hr drive to and from, so hes knackered when he arrives home, so he got up around 12:30 and I told him what had happened. He was rightly very cross so he calls out "Molly, come here !" in a pissed off kinda way.

So in she runs, soggy toilet paper all over her with a plastic easter egg filled with toilet water. So of course, she got the leg slapping I warned her of. But tbh? it was probably one of the funniest things ever.

Kids. Theyre so silly yet so clever at the same time. Basically the toilet is the only source of water little Molly can reach, so a slap on the legs was well worth the fun she was having.

And yesterday she got up in the morning and Covee gave her a bowl of dry shreaded wheat. She doesnt like milk on her cereal.

So she then proceeded to crush them all into powder, fill up plastic easter eggs and throw them at anything within sight. LMAO.

I cleaned that all up. I did tell her off but I was trying so hard not to just burst out laughing because I was a naughty little fucker when I was a kid too.

My mother told me stories of when I would go out in the street, find a big piece of dog shit and then bring it in the house, get out the plates and meticulously cut it up into seperate (and very accurate) servings and lay them all out on the table.

LOL.

I am about to add some pics of Molly and Covee into my album so do check them out ! but honestly? I have not had this much fun in fucking years
