12" RSD with 600.1 in 1.8 sealed

Post by Capital_M »

im having a few issues with this set up, i let it be for a few months now i wanna get down to business.

On a few songs, very few, some bassnotes stop being played with the system turned up high, and they are not even deep hard notes either, just regular notes. Same thing happens on some long notes.

However all my test tones played friggin hard all the way down to 30hz

Second problem is my bass above 50hz is absoulute garbage, sometimes it doesnt even seem like there is a sub, also noticeable on test tones. Could it be my cars resonance?

How is the charging system of the car? How is the amp wired up? What size fuse do you have on the amp?

Everything is 0 gauge except from the distro block to the amp its 4 gauge

charging system is perfect, no lights dim EVER and the fuse size is the correct size, just cant remember exactly what size it is.

Does the amp ever get hot? I have a x600.1 in use right now and it has never shut down on me. Something seems to be weird here..... :?

no, not really, i mean i duno if its shutting down, becuase its just certain notes for a second or continually if its a fast beat of the same note, but it will keep playing everything else

How about the ground? Do you have another sub you can throw in there and see if it's that sub?

That set up will not work for Canadians. It's the same frequency as a moose in heat.

Got an example song? That might help diagnose it a bit...

sound like that your box is too big sealed, thats probably whyevery thing
in the bottom octaves hits hard but there is no top end

must kinda sound muddy

ported it or make a smaller sealed box.
You may have subs in your car........but my doors sound better!

I have a 1200.1 (RSD) and got the same issue, the load is 2ohm with 4 Alpine 10" . Its not hot and its maybe 1\2 second before it starts to play again. Could the input be to high (wrong gain settings?) or maybe the DC out protection?

I have a RMD connected to mine and the voltage is between 14.8V down to 13.5V

I got an impression that it happens when i play songs with week bass, could the voltage on the signal be to high even if the bassline in the song is week?

I got a 4V output Alpine deck and the LPL and the Gain is both approx 50%

The protection mode thing is driving me nuts, i starting to miss the 2 ZX450 i used to have :D

Edit: The 1200.1 is protected with a 60A Agu fuse. I have never changed this fuse. Is this normal? The amp has got 120A internal fuses.

Anybody care to say what the voltage is at the power terminals while this is happening?
I think we've established that "Ka Ka" and "Tukki Tukki" don't work.

My RMD says approx 13.2V - 14.5V or so, dont know what the voltage is at the power terminals when it happens but i suppose the RMD is good enough?

The electrical system in my car is to weak but i`m never below 13.2V
Is there any protection in the amps when the voltage drops below a given value? Anyway, i suppose they should be playing ok down to 12V?

My user manual says that there is an on board protection against the following:

1. Voltage spikes
2. short circuit, shorted speaker outputs
3. Over thermal limits
4. over-current situasion
5. DC offset at the outputs

In my case i`m sure its not nr 2 or 3

Is it the size of the voltage spikes that matters or is the speed of the drop or the duration of the drop?

If the gain and LPL is set wrong will this drive the amp to clip and if so would a clipping amp produce DC offset at the outputs?

My RSD 1200.1 is loaded 2 ohm. Maybe the voicecoils on my subwoofers is a little below 4ohm an in that case the total is below 2ohm and the causes a over-current situasion at the amp?

Thanks for all help this thing is driving me (us all) nuts :D

Thanx

Your RMD is not a fast response display, so it will not show an instant drop in voltage.

For this you will need a DMM connected to the terminals and have a min/max memory on the unit. Or you can use an analogue meter to get a rough idea what types of drops are being seen.

Your voice coils are indeed not 4 ohms, they are very likely 3.7'ish as that is the common range. However if they are actually 2 ohm (1.7) and not the rated 4 which you believe they are then you will have a problem.

In any of the above mentioned systems with issues is there a Cap in the power line? If so temporarily remove it from the system.
I think we've established that "Ka Ka" and "Tukki Tukki" don't work.

I can try with an analouge meter on the terminals. I do have a 1 Farad PG Cap in my system. I will try to disconnect it this weekend. Is there a chance that the voltage drop is caused of the cap recharging?

I do have 4 Alpine 4 ohm DVC. I have connected the voicecoils on each speaker in serial so that each speaker is 8ohm. Then i have 4 of them in parallell. If i disconnect 1 of them and use just the 3 others then the load should be above the 2ohm.

Its weard but i can play typical bass music (Timbaland, 50 cent etc) without the amp shutting down.

Looks like it work fine when the tracks got a lot of Bass-info in it but when i play songs with weak bass-info typical cd`s from the 80`s etc and i try to boost the bass either with the volume, subwoofer 0-15dB on my Alpine deck or the LPL then the amp shuts down to.

Could the input voltage be to high when boosting like this? I have bought a basscube and i linedriver so i hope they will help in some way.

Thanx

I got no cap in my system

Again notes under 50hz esspecially 45hz hit hard with authority, anything above 50hz is just terrible and quite, no punch at all

How are your crossovers set? Is it possible that you have a large gap around 50Hz? I would think that quite doubtful but I'm just putting it out there in case it might be that simple.

like errin said my guess a voltage drop for some reason on the harder/more dynamic or longer bass notes.

voltage drop sounds exactly like the problem, what would cause that

And as for the 50hz xover point, not possible, right now the xover on my x600 is high and my head unit it set at 80. i also tried this reverse, same thing
