6 Phoenix Gold Ti12D Install

Post by oxphatxo »

Hi everyone. I came to this forum from realmofexcursion. I didn't know this place existed until someone emailed me and told me.
Being that I just bought 6 PG Ti12D's and that my old school 15's were PG XS series subs, I feel i'll fit right in. The car for install is an 85 Buick Regal.

My install so far consists of the 6 PG drivers being each dual 4 ohm 1200wrms, a box built into the back seat compartment, an old fosgate 1500 rms D class mono amp, and 3 AlphaCell Premium Gel 180 GXL-HP deep cycle batteries (65lbs each). A pioneer DEH-P8MP head end. The batteries aren't going in until I have the amps.
So far I have only the 2 subs in the middle connected to the amp. Since the amp can only put out around 800rms per sub, i'm getting some clipping at an early volume. Until I get the new amps, i'll have to just keep it down for a while.

The amps i'll most likely be going for are 3 Orion HCCA-D5000 which will input 1250wrms per sub at 1 ohm per 2 subs. I have some pics i'll post in the next section.

Pics of install

Post by oxphatxo »

The box is made of 3/4 inch MDF. I know they want you to use 1 inch at least, but I only learned that after I had made the box. So I reinforced the inside edges and corners with 2x3's.

More pics coming soon.

Hi man; just my kind of [S.P.L] install... I like it.
That's gonna move some air when finished....
Next time use a fraise, instead of a jig-saw ,for cutting the holes.
You'll have perfect round holes, with max. edge left, to drill holes for the t-nuts on the inside.
[if you can, use t-nuts, and bolts, avoid screws; you never know how tight they actually are holding the speaker.]
Keep going man!
DO POST PICS as you get along, and make me smile!
Good luck.

that is going to be off the hook loud.

i, myself, have 2 of them sitting, waiting for an install/car.

brenzbmr...are you going to try to put them in your lex with 2 ms2125 per sub? that would be one awesome, heavy install.

str8cyko

no that would be too damn heavy

teh car wouldnt hold it pressure wise...and i dont think it would be very impressive since all the bass has to come out of a ski pass

but i was thinking my protoge since teh seats fold down andi could
wall off the trunk to get max bass in the car.

teh impedence of each coil is about 2.6 which would be fine for my ms2125s

as soon as the two i bought from nico get here ill have
5 ms2125s
2 ms250
2 mq430
2 ms275

ill put back teh ms2125 and mq 430 in the lex and then decide what
subs ill use in the mazda

but im working on trying to get four RE mt 15s and two sundownz 3000d
for my street beater car...87 nissan sentra

we just intalled a saz 3000d on a treo ssx 15 and it actually prefomred better at 1 ohm then the arc audio 4k amp he had on it...

guys i give sundownz amps good props
im really starting to like that 3000d

but if i can get another ti elite 12d then ill run four off of a pair of 3000d
tuned at 30hz
with a 20 cubic ft enclousre just to see what kinda low end numbers i can get...

Brenz, ask Cecil about Ill Nana, I think he's a friend of his. IIRC he's on vacation or something.

cu ft

Post by oxphatxo »

Hey anyone have an answer for this question? I made my box with more cu ft then the recommended for the subs. The 3 sections that divide the 6 subs are about 5 cu ft. per section. So the subs are getting around 2.5 cu ft each, when the recommended sealed enclosure for these subs are only 1 cu ft for SPL or 1.6 for musical per sub.
What is this going to sound like? Really bad, or not a big deal?
Any ideas for changes?

Change of plans

Post by oxphatxo »

Alright, i've changed my amp plans to 3 Rockford Fosgate's T20001. I have a link here you guys can check out that is from Rockfords official website, showing the actual watt ratings for each of their amps. Check it out here, http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/products ... output.asp

If you noticed, the T20001 for some reason is WAY more under rated than all of the other amps. With a wattage like 2851 on average, i'll be able to push each sub with 1400 watts or so for only an extra $100 per amp more than the Orion D5000's. I'm sold.

Just to bring it up, but those power ratings for the Rockford amps (the 2851W number) are in 1 ohm configuration... is that how you'll be running the Elites?

6 woofers per 3 amps = 2 woofers per amp

Two dvc 4 ohm woofers run in parallel/parallel = 1 ohm load

No problem ;)

The Ill nana has used the last two elites he had in his own BMW they are being glassed in as I type this.

I been seeing them on e-bay for $249.00 plus shipping and thats the same price nana had his at so do a flea bay search and get a new one with a warranty I think and you will be ok.

Nana got a job with HP and has been buried alive in some secret project of theres for the last three weeks, But he will be back around when his car gets finished in a bout 2 months as I MADE him promise to show everyone his work of art when its done with all 11 or 13 of its screens running and two elite 12's in the tiny ass trunk of his     with two 1200 running them.

it should be interesting to see, even if we just poke fun at him

Thanks fuzzysnuggle, you've done your homework. It would be a 1 ohm load per 2 subs. As for sundown amps, i'm sure they're great amps. But man, its hard to find them.. They must not be too popular yet, eh? Yeah, I said eh. I'm from Canada.
Anyways, if I can get 2800 watt rms CEA certified amps for a pretty descent price with a descent amount of power for about $800 US. shipped per amp to Canada. I'll have to trust the Fosgate name on this purchase. Can't go wrong with that right?

PS: I wanna go ported, but I don't know how i'd find the room for ports.. I'm lookin' and I really don't see how they can fit. I really don't know a whole lot about making them especially for the type of custom box i've made. It's got angles galore. I may just have to re-create a new front piece for the box.

redo the front baffle and drop the 12 lower and raise the other one seperate the 12s so you can fit the port in the middle of each pair

then it should fit on the outside edge of each chamber.

aloha

Mechanically complete install

Post by oxphatxo »

Hi all. Here's a few pics now of the subs and amps. I went with 3 Rockford Fosgate T20001BD's for power.. I still get my amps going into protection after cranking it full at low hz for anything more than around 5-10 seconds. The voltage draw is just still too much, even with the hood battery and stock alternator connected and running it. Time for a large alternator, thats for sure. The actual impedences worked out to be exactly 0.8 ohms for each pair of subs. Although I haven't heard any distortion from the subs, I am happy so far with the sound.
Comments are welcome. Anybody know an easy way to get a nice finish on the box and in the trunk?

You should really get some black wire to do your grounds.

How do you have your gains set?

I have brown 2 guage ground coming off all the amps. I had extra 2 guage red so I used it on the bats using the black connector rings just to make it known they are grounds. Not a big deal anyways, but for looks, yeah I see what your saying.
The gains are set on the master amp at 25% which seems to work fine on ratio to volume. The head unit bass settings are set at default, there is no loud on or any extra bass settings on. I'm going to put a video on youtube very soon and then I will be posting the link for that next time I message here.
