The differance a HU can make.

Post by smgreen20 »

I've always known that a HU can make a big change in a system, but this I was not expecting.

I tired of the Pioneer P980BT and took back my Eclipse CD8455 from my wifes car and gave her the Pioneer HU. I believe that that Pioneer HU was part of my blown sounding mid as well.

The jump from 5v outs to 8v outs was night and day. I didn't recall it being that big of a diff when I took the Eclipse out and put the Pioneer in but going the other way around it was beyond night and day. The dynamics changed so much I was shocked.

The main reason I went to the PIO from the ECL was that the PIO had a 15 band eq and it affected the whole freq output as w/the ECL it has a 5 band F/R parametric eq and it DID NOT affect the sub outs. So there's no eq adjustment on the sub out on that model ECL deck. I decided to use the BASSCUBE for that task as I liked to mess w/the freq adjustment all the time but now I will refrain from doing so. I must say it's the best my system has ever sounded. Gets heller loud whilest clean as I'll ever get.

Now I just need to buy the Bluetooth adapter for the HU so I can use that in the new year as it will be illegal in Indiana to drive while on a cell phone in 2008.

I'm also in the hunt at tax time to get an Audio Control EQS, maybe a DQS??????

Those Elites are now sounding better than the Dyns did, but then again, I didn't have the Dyns in w/the ECl HU.

I totally understand the head unit thing...that voltage output helps a lot!

Those units arent comparable. The 880 prs is more comparable to the eclipse..

Just a quick question... will line driving a low output voltage deck have the same effect as running a higher voltage output deck?

Wouldn't the clarity and crispness differences between two such systems come down to the quality of the HU, especially the DAC and various other components.

I think my Alpine deck is ok feature (love the digital iPod input) and sound wise but I've been thinking about a better deck, however I really don't need more than 2V pre-outs because my amps are loud as fuck at 2V with gains at zero... decisions, decisions.

I just put my Ural back in and took out the Eclipse 8053 again.....huge difference...I am still deciding which one is better...but I need to tweak the EQ to get it at least close to what it should be. The Eclipse seems to have a bit more warmth and space to it than the Ural...which sounds a bit analytical and dry in comparison....but it could come down to EQ...but I had to make sure the replacement Ural faceplate that has been sitting on my desk for almost a year worked. :)
