Adding extra tweets to an Elite System

Post by loud corvette guy »

Need some advise here,I have the Elite component set in the kick panels of my 66 Vette with a Zenon X1004 amp in the rear. Also have a set of RSD coax speakers for rear fill also mounted in the rear on either side of the amp.I want to raise the soundstage a bit in the front by adding a set of Elite tweets to the base of the windshield pillars.Cant I just run the wires to the front tweets and be done? P/G says I really need to buy a separate crossover for the extra set due to the impedance change.Has anyone done this w/o the extra crossover? (PS The kick panels are custom so I cant change their aiming at all) Finally I noticed that there is no dynamat or anything inside of these fiberglass enclosures. It would seem to me I should add something in there.Any recommendations?

PG is right as far as adding an extra set of tweets, it will change the crossover points and unbalance the whole system

what i would try is not adding extra tweets, just moving them up, and adding "hole filler" tweets to your pods if you have to. (not powered obviously.)

your other option could be buying a second crossover and powering the extra tweets off the deck (this way they can fade independent of the amp)

i personally think that having two setts of tweets is a bad idea because it will ad more sound sources to your front stage, and they will over power the mid.

and adding some deadening/fill to your pods will help them quite a bit

I got this brilliant idea after renting a new Impala for a business trip.It had factory tweets in the base of the windshield pillars built right in and it sounded great! I cant move the tweets as they are glassed into the custom kick panel enclosures.I hear what you are saying; maybe I'm trying to improve something that does not need improving but I would love to experiment with the idea to see what it would do but its probably not worth the $175 to find out!

Im assuming you want to bring your sound stage up by doing this?
Can one send others to war if hes not willing to go himself?
