For those of you that have owned a Xenon 600.1....
What did you run with it?
I'm still up in the air as to what I want to run. Here are my thoughts so far (limited to $250 shipped).
2 - Alpine Type R 12's
1 - 15" FI Q (used maybe new?)
1 - IDMax (used)
2 - 12" FI SSD (used)
2 - Audioque 2.5sd (i think) (used)
2 - Diamond Audio D6 12's
I figure around 5 cu ft available or so, Xenon x600.1 so up to 800w maybe at 4 ohm? Looking for a system that sounds extremely well and plays deep at reasonable levels but can get suprisingly loud when cranked.

I would give the Fi Q a try and port it. I bet that would sound AWESOME!! Right now I have a custom sub using a TC9 motor on a x600.1. It's in a sealed box about 1.5 cuft big. It sounds pretty good, but I wish I had more room. If I did I would build another ABC box. That was the best setup I have ever had sub stage wise. Low and loud, and it had great SQ. Yep, that is what I would do if I were you.

i have powered almost ever sub PG has mad with mine
it defiantly seems to prefer 4ohms, so whatever you pic, you should try and get the voice coil cofig that will let you do that.
right now im rocking a single pg xenon 10d2, and it has power to spare.
i i would skip the alpines or the diamonds off that list.
the only reason i say that is because a pg rsd12 will destroy them in every single respect.
the rest i have never had any experience. with

Yep, before they were bought out by the same outfit that owns US Amps now they were a mighty fine company. Now their prices are through the roof (even with the dealer discount). Scott got sick of it and started Fi. I always did want to try a RE XXX, but never had enough power to feed one. Now that I have the power, they don't make the older ones I wanted to try. Such a shame...Wakeup wrote:Fi subs are made by the same guy who made RE audio.

You're going to have a hard time convincing the people on this forum that the Type-R is either:Confusedsoul wrote:Really? Type R's are pretty damn good for the money.
a) A better woofer
or
b) A better value
We love the RSD sub, in general. It's not that the Alpine is bad by any means, though.

I realize this is a PG site, but not everyone here is using PG subs either. If someone has used both the RSD and Type R, I'd really like to hear their thoughts. Until then, I have no reason to believe the RSD is any better than the type R, even if this is a PG site. What makes the RSD a better woofer? Have you heard both? I'm sure either of them are a great value, I'm not worried about that, I'm looking for the better woofer for that value.fuzzysnuggleduck wrote:You're going to have a hard time convincing the people on this forum that the Type-R is either:Confusedsoul wrote:Really? Well, I don't have a graph for the Type-R but here's one that VW337 made for the RSD 12:

Now, take that graph with a grain of salt, I don't believe that it provides the true full picture of the sub.
Maybe VW337 or stipud can do a RSD12 vs Type-R 12 graph for you.
Edit: bdubs did a review on SoundBuggy as well. He doesn't compare it to the Type-R, but he does compare it to the IDMax and other decently high-end subwoofers. Here's the link:

the type-r's are a great sub, but the RSD's are a sleeping giant. dont let the modest look fool you, they are quite amazing considering the price point. I'm not just touting them because I'm a PG fan, they really are a great woofer.Confusedsoul wrote:Really? car audio & electronics mag rated them as the 4th best sub last year
i will try and find the article for you, but if i remember correctly they got beat by a, cerwin vega (modle?) critical mass and one other.

I havn't heard both in a An a/B environment. they were in completely different cars (the type-r were running of a 600watt kicker...not sure of model) so it might not be a fair evaluation. the type-r's were very similar as far as how loud they sounded, but gave me an "artificial" feeling. like they had a hump in the 50-60 region to give off the impression SPLConfusedsoul wrote: I realize this is a PG site, but not everyone here is using PG subs either. they missed many of the lower notes that the rsd hit with serious authority
the songs i noticed this specifically on were Jurassic 5's "back for you" which has a low note that is separate from the main bass line and Chemical brothers "Saturate" which has tons of different bass lines.
without a dealer, i don't think there is a way to hear both, even if one of us had A/B'ed the two, you still might prefer on over the other.
that statement is just my opinion. i honestly didn't feel like the type r did anything that the rsd couldn't do better, for very similer prices.

I Don't know for sure, I've just seen the top 10 list.
5. Earthquake Subzero-12
6. Xtant x2.1044
7. Rockford p212s4
8. JL 10w6v2-d4
9. Rockford t210d4
10 IDMax 10d4 v.4
DD 3510d
I don't know if those are the only subs they tested or not, I just know that's how the top 10 were rated. I don't remember the prices on the rest of them either. The top four stuck in my head because I own an RSD, and I was impressed with how well it did at the price.

xenon play super deep..silly deep...but have no output above 50hz and sound like shit above that. I now would only use them up to 40hz w/ a 4th order slope.Confusedsoul wrote:Where are all the Xenon subs? Can't find any for sale it seems. Even on ebay. Not too many reviews on them either. I've read so far that they play deep, but thats about all I know.
I have heard the Type R briefly a few times, but not in a semi controlled environment to truly compare it to the RSd. With that said between my RSd and the type Rs I heard, the RSd seemed to play lower while the type R had an extra punch at around 40hz. Rsd IMO would be a far better SQ sub that can get loud, while the type R sounded like a SPL sub.
RSd sub is the best value woofer on the market I have heard to date hands down. Look at the woofers I compared to it...
Now with that said GO IB. I just convinced some guy to do a single RSd12 IB in his trunk he said it was freaking amazing.
Can one send others to war if hes not willing to go himself?
Also I used a Peerless XLS 12", Peerless XLS 12" w/ PR, and BA 12.5lf that I never wrote a review for...
The XLS was sexy from 35hz to 85hz but didn't drop low enough w/o the passive perhaps the best woofer in that range, with the passive thing was crazy low prob lower then the xenon but thats cheating. Overall very tonal and LOW LOW LOW LOW, but the upper range did suffer a little bit w/ the PR IMO. THe BA LF was great too, reminded me of the alumapro alec, but not quite as quick it did have better low end but not in the league of the Max flatline or Rsd. Did need only a .5 cu ft box.

If I had the money I'd run 2 12" alumapro alchemy's again. Those things sound crazy good. Still miss my 3 Eclipse Aluminums off 900w each, they got a little loud.bdubs767 wrote:Also I used a Peerless XLS 12", Peerless XLS 12" w/ PR, and BA 12.5lf that I never wrote a review for...

to expand on what bdubs said...under 50 hz, no sub i have ever heard can touch them, simply amazing, even my x10 will out do many 15's in low output, but i just can't get them to blend with my front stage property, they just have a natural roll off at 50hz, and without dedicated midbass' in the front, i can't recommend them.Confusedsoul wrote:Where are all the Xenon subs? im not really sure where they all went, they were dumping them on ebay for dealer cost a few months ago and ebay was swaped with them.
