Moral dilima (kinda)

Post by mr tibbs »

Since I have a new business and it involves Real Estate people I have been meeting with a lot of them lately. Well, I'm starting to wonder if I should shave my goatee. Here in the land of the holy it is not proper to have facial hair such as mine. I really think this could be hurting me in the business world. Normally in the past I have relished in the fact that my facial hair has "filtered" people out for me. Hell, if people didn't want to talk to me because I had facial hair I was greatful! I knew if they didn't want to talk to me because if it I really didn't want to talk to them. But now it's a different story, I need to make as many contacts as I can regardless of whether or not I want to talk to them. I have not really run into an issue yet, but I know it's coming. I know it's just some hair on my face and it will grow back, but it has been a part of me since high school. It's kinda hard to describe, I guess I would just feel sort of naked without it. Also, it's kinda what I'm known for. People can recognize me in a heart beat because of it.

So, what would you guys do? Shave a part of you to make some snobby people happy so you could make a buck off of them, or keep it and to hell with them? I'm really on the fence about this.

Man your asking me??? I have not seen my own jaw bone since I was 16. And now at 50 I say why change. (don't want to scare the neighbors)

Now in your business if the crowd your catering to has to see a clean religious idol face to do business with you then, perhaps your clientèle needs to modernize.
I realize you live in Jesus-land, and I live in devil-land, but people don't judge others by facial hair here, they look for manners and morals more than anything else.

If it really bothers you then do a high and tight on it, and clean it up daily so it looks neat and clean, and close trimmed.
Remember, being clean cut does not mean being butt naked of facial hair. It just means that you must look groomed and well kept. JM$0.02 worth...C

I agree w/ 1moreamp. Keep it clean and trimmed. Also be yourself! Turn your facial hair into who you are. Find a way to build your business on it or around it. Realize that because you are in an area that may see that as bad or not clean...or whatever prove them wrong. Keep it neat, and clean...be professional, make up for it by looking good with it. Then evaluate it every few months. Also feel out your potential clients and clients. And go from there. Good luck!

Oh believe me, I look good with it baby!!

It just sucks that I even have to think this way about some facial hair. People are soooooo superficial around here that it's sick. I don't know, I guess I'll trim it up a little bit and see what happens. Like I said, it hasn't been an issue yet, but at some point I just know that it will be.

I'd shave it. Money's more important to me than facial hair.
