m100 heating up

I have one m100 pushing 2 JL 12w3v2 d4's. I have them configured as 2 ohm each and running them stereo to the amp. I have had this amp since '93 and never had any heat issues. Previously it was pushing 2 12w6's in a small sealed enclosure @ 3 ohm stereo.

My m100 has not thermaled yet, but it only plays about 15-20 minutes (my drive to work) and is really gettin warm. I will not burn your hand but shockingly hot on say your forarm. So a few questions: Is it normal to be getting this warm on short time? Should I be thinking about a shroud before I see if it thermals?

I am getting good 14.4 to the amp and running 4ga cable. Inline fuse is 60A and it has not pulled enough current through to blow the fuse so i'd guess it is pulling less than 60A. Thanks for any help/suggestions.

Nothing causes heat issues like clipping. If your input voltage or gains are set too high, your amp will heat up like crazy. Have you changed headunits since then? It's very likely that your headunit pre-out voltage has increased a lot over the years, so if you haven't adjusted your gains yet, now would be the time to turn it down.

Also, with such an old amp, you should be looking at changing the capacitors out. This won't make it run any cooler, but it will keep it from going up in a ball of flames when the capacitors leak and short out
