Tantrum Amp

Post by culzero »

hey guys been wanting to ask y'all this question but never got around to it. I got a T1200.1 mounted in the rear of my SUV and whenever I listen to the radio and turn it on I get nothing but static. I have a seperate remote switch for each amp so that I can turn it on and off when I want to. I used to have a ZPA0.5 in its place in which this never happened. And I even swapped it out with another T1200.1 I have sitting in my house. Does anyone have an idea as to why I would get RF interference from my T1200.1 when it turns on?

Thanks for the help

Possibly bad caps on the 12 volt side of the amp. this is what those caps are for inside the amp. Also the case is grounded and if that case ground is compromised you get a big antenna. Your amp needs service by PG for a serious issue like this. As long as the amp works otherwise they should not have any issues getting this problem resolved for you. I would call Phil and talk to him about it at Rodin/PG. I am sure they can fix this for you, as it probably something on the easy side in the power supply causing the issue....C

i thought the tantrum amps were known for the rf radio interference issue because of the class t design and stuff....wasnt that an issue that came up with some peoples installs....its been awhile but im sure it was...

Try running a chassis ground wire between the HU and amp.

In regard to the difference of the ZPA vs Ta on the static the power supplies are different and it really matters how close the unit is to your antennea as many mosfet driven power supplies are known to interfere with AM reception but if this is crossing over to FM then there may be another issue.
I think we've established that "Ka Ka" and "Tukki Tukki" don't work.

yes this is referring to FM interference As far as the AM goes, I lost AM reception almost completely when I replaced factory head unit for an aftermarket Pioneer Premier, but I don't care bout AM cause I never listen to it

are you running 12 gauge or largerspeaker wire between the amp and the subs???? I ask because the larger gauge wire helps reduce RFI issues....C :)

That's what first popped into my mind.
"ZPA's will have the same sound essentially as you get from the MS, they just feature a bigger shinier set of balls."
