Get the front end resprayed, and immediately have 3M clearbra installed. It really does work to keep those annoying tiny chips and blemishes away.

DAMN. I must agree with you there. $3500 should result in a pretty flawless job.

I have my state farm guy coming on Monday to inspect it for me

95% of this work was done under 3 separate insurance claims so he will be dealing with state farm on his ass if he doesn’t make me happy with a rework.

Mostly this is all do too shitty prep work and short cuts e.g. just spraying over the chips and not feathering / blending before the spray.

I think its piss poor workmanship. In my book if your going to do anything do it right or don’t fucking do it at all !

There is no excuse for this, I would have been better off going to earl shrive or maco for gods sake.
This is a clear cut case of shitty preparation. Errin there is enough dirt under that paint / clear coat to start a garden.
What absolutely burns me is I looked at it before it was sprayed and I even mentioned to him about the divots on the front valence. He assured me it would be taken care of guess what it didn’t happen.
I can not wait for the adjuster to see this shit because he was such a Nazi when doing the write up during the estimation phase of all this.

What I don’t understand is this body guy came so highly recommended by the people in the local VW club for doing such outstanding work.

I pose this question to all the members here; do you think I am being unreasonable?
I just can not tolerate when someone tries to get one over on me. Seriously what was he thinking? For gods sake the guy knows I am QC inspector for a living, I get paid good money to find shit just like this !

And yes I found some I missed also and promptly went out to the garage and marked them up.

I say take it in and show the owner/manager what kind of shitty work his employees do. Hopefully someone gets fired too. And your insurance guy should be on your side and go to bat for you as well. And then bring up the L word (Lawyer)....that usually gets shit done. :)

I ran into a similar situation with a guy when I tried to get my body kit painted and installed.

3500 dollars and you should have had a flawless paint job

Yeah, I absolutly would bitch. Even a job that cost half of what you paid. I am a perfectionist, and as it looks like you have done, fine tooth comb the job, well documented with pics. threaten him with a lawyer, see where it goes from there.

Fuck no.

spraying is easy, I proved that last year with my taurus.

Prep however is not. I mean fucking hell mast I could have done a better fucking job than that. All it fucking takes is a tube of bondo spot putty FFS you take a sharpie and go around looking for chips and dvitis and draw a light circle around them and then use the tip of your finger to fill them in. then sand the car.

He hasnt done that and that's why you have so many small imperfections.

$3500? fucking hell you could have gotten another fucking car for that !!! Especially when those matierials probably cost $300 or less and he didnt even buy a $10 tube of spot putty.

If like you said it was a $300 maco job I would be pleased with it, but holy moly $3500? my local place quoted me $1500 plus matierals ($500) to do what I want done to my tib and I thought that was outrageous because its 2 days work (one full day prep or even 2) and one day to paint the cunt (infact about 3 hours) then a buff.

$3500 for a stock paint job (by stock I mean just a plain color) is fucking disgusting.

Mastiff, you got jacked dude. I don't think in any way you are being unreasonable. You paid full price for a half-ass job. I would be raising all holy hell if that was my car. I would try to be semi-nice at first, but if that doesn't work raise hell!! Get the lawyer involved, and the BBB, and tell everyone that will listen about this place. GO GET 'EM TIGER!!!!!

BTW, nice car! I bet it's a blast to drive!

Go in there tell the guy who did the work that you paid for a full ass and you expect it, not just the half assed representation he has provided.

Let him know he will be redoing it again and again until it is right since that is what has been paid for.

What would scare me isnt even what you can see now, it's what he left underneath the paint that may haunt you later.

I mean what if the fucker didnt even wash it down with degreaser before painting? answer is in a couple of years paint will start to fall off.

It's a VW. Who fucking cares?

Just kidding. I would give him the opportunity to repair it before going legal on him. Everyone has a bad day now and then. A rental ride at his expense while your's is in the shop should be complimentary. A complete refund is another option. At $3.5K, he should be begging you the opportunity to make things right.

Now, if he balks, then pull out the guns, insurance adjustor, lawyer, molotov cocktails etc.

Yes, you're a knob, but not in this case.
