RSD crossover question

Post by nick-caper »

I have the 5 incher RSd's and am wondering if these are using impedance compensation or is one of the speaker(tweeter or mid) using an 18db slope. There seems to be allot of components in this passive crossover. Thanks

I am almost 100% positive it uses 12db slopes, and has phase and impedance compensation.
Can one send others to war if hes not willing to go himself?

Im pretty sure you are right cause there seems to be a resistor and a inductor in the tweeter section. That means its using imoedence compensation.
Thanks for the reply.
Im playing around with the crossovers to see if I can get them to sound better. I find the tweeters are very good at subtle nuances that I didnt hear in other tweeters I had but they kinda suck at certain frequencies. it coul dbe my setup. im not sure. Im changing the capacitors to several small values in parallel. This will get rid of distortion and should make for a better sound. more crispy! I have been using some very very nice sounding Mallory caps. They are Mallory Polyester Film caps. Ill take a pic or two and post um here when I am done installing the Mallorys. And Ill let yall know what they sound like..

i have alway had great experiances with the tweeters. the only thing i dont like with the rsd's the midrange and higher volumes.

i would keep playing with the phase, i'm pretty confident you can get them to sound great

I just changed the caps and here they are.

I will hookum up this weekend.
The fronts will use these. The rears are fullrange from 100hz up with no passives or tweeters. Just the mids.

The soundstage got deeper. Its amazing what these little green things do. Eavery time I use them they surprise me.
Basically the music opens up. I can here the echos and small details. Plus the music it now about 1 foot past the windshield! The midbass hits harder. The tweeters dont sound like paper tearing anymore. .......maybe its just me but these little caps are far more accutaer then anything I heard so far.

I build Oild field computers and we use allot of small components. We had some of these green caps sittin in dust. I figured I would try them out on some old Audiobahn passives I had.

Mallory is the name brand. They are metallized polyester film caps from what my coworker stated. They do have small numbers on them but say nothing about uf value. So I used a Multimeter to measure them. The values I use is 1uf. .5uf and .1uf. I use them togther to decrease resistance and also to make the value I need. I dont think they are too hard to find. I dont have any left. Ill need to get some also. These are like 10 years old from what my coworker told me. So the green color may have changed to yellow or something else. But the nice thing is that they are nonpolarised and dont leak. They are sealed. And I think they are available in larger values. Maybe Ill try and get a parts number and post it here. And if someone can find them please do the same. Thanks

Update.
I found the capacitors
http://www.vishay.com/docs/26009/mkt1818.pdf
They are made by Vishay
http://s.maxthon.com/?q=18004590166
I thought they were Mallory but not.
They are 5% tolerance Metallized Polyester Film.
I think I might order some more if I can find a place that sales them without ordering hundres at a time

So if it isnt a Zobel then what is it? Cause A resistor is in the circuit for the tweeter as well as 2 inductors and a cap. Looks like a zobel..

That would be a small notch filter not a zobel.
I think we've established that "Ka Ka" and "Tukki Tukki" don't work.
