Hate to be a brand whore, but the RSD 6.5's would blow any of those away, and likely cost much less.

RSD6.5" for the cost and sound quality, hands down.

Sound Quality: I assume you will be installing them in enclosures...kick panles or custom enclosures for the door panels...

yes sir i will be doing fiberglass kick panels for 5.25's
fiberglass enclosures in the doors for 6.5 components
and i will be building enclosures in the rear deck for 5.25 coax's.

i am starting with the doors first because the speakers in the front doors are blown.

I'm finishing up the tuning on a system using the quart premiums tomorrow. I'll get back to you on them. In my experience with the upper-end MB Quarts they have had slightly superior control over the midrange when compared to the RSD components. The RSD's on the other hand do have far more midbass output. Although I am a silk dome tweeter kind of guy the quart titanium tweeters are very listenable while still providing the detail you would expect from a metal dome tweet. In no way would I describe them as harsh or nearly as bright as other sets I have listened to that MB Quart is commonly comparted to (i.e. Focal).

One thing to remember though is that MB Quart just revamped the premium series so depending on when you're purchasing and from where you may run into new and older sets. they have changed for the new model year.

please do get back to me on how they turn out.

im starting to find and hear more on the harshness of the focal tweets so i think those will be out. i have also talked to a buddy of mine that used to be a diamond dealer and he says they new diamond stuff is going down hill on sound quality so i think those are out.

i think i am goining to look more towards the rsd's and the quarts
i have had alot of experience with the older quarts (i have a set of 5yr old reference series 6.5 comps in my burb)from when i worked for the guy i spoke of that was a diamond dealer. he may also be biased because he is a focal dealer now.
i can find alot on the cdt stuff so just for lack of resources they are prolly out as well.

i will be using 3 rsd 10 dvc's for low end.

Those Quarts are actually very nice, basicilly the same parts as the Qsd's just with slightly lower power handling( total myth anyway) and smaller x-over units. And thats a decent price, dont believe the hype though, they dont sell for $1000.
REALLY!?

Hmm, you are going to be utilizing rear deck speakers for a SQ vehicle?

Since we are on this topic, I had a question about using 2 RSd sets in the front. If you have 2 sets up front, are you just going to use them as 2 full range sets or are you doing 2 sets that you are going to tune differently. I am thinking about running 2 sets in the front of my vw golf but was wondering if I even should or if it would be a waste.

I did that with two sets of A/D/S componets. It was really loud and I had hardly any imaging. I had one set in kick panels and a set in the doors with the tweeter up high on the door panel.

I think the tweeters helped raise my sound sage if nothing else. The extra midbass driver improved midbass response but the midrange was all messed up. I had a huge response spike around 4k cycles. I could never get it to sound right even with a 15 band eq.

Obviously, you will not experience the exact same thing as I did. However, you will run into different response discrepancies.

If you must have a set of speakers in the doors. I would run the rsds in a 3 way set up. The mids in the doors from ~60-80 and the kicks from ~75-up. From what I have been hearing about the rsd comp sets, the midbass response should be really heavy.

Two sets will be overwhelming. What do you want to achieve?

RSd6.5" comp will be plenty.

Would it be a good idea to run them in a 3 way setup? 6.5" for midbass, 5.25" for midrange, and just one set out of the two sets of tweeters up in the dash? Seems like it could be nice if it will sound excellent that way but if it will sound similar, i would prob just do a set in the doors and save the cost of the crossovers and eq I would need.

i havnt done it, but i cant see why a 6.5 - 5.25 - 1 set would absolutly rock your face off.

in fact, if PG made a higher end 3 way crossoever, and maybe just a couple very minor tweaks, it could be a very very high end set

Maybe they will make a set like that by the time the RSd competition subs come out kind of like they did with the elite stuff...make it an above average line like elite was. That would be awesome!! We should rally to Errin and have him make this happen : ).
